Hold the phone. A blackberry? A RESEARCH IN MOTION Blackberry? Well, it looks like the RIM team is going to try to go out with a bang before they go out of business thanks to that patent lawsuit which had appeals rejected by none other than the Federal Supreme Court. Does anybody know when they are going to have to stop selling them in the US? I highly doubt that they have enough liquidity to pay the 400 something odd million that they owe, so the doomsday is going to have to come sometime soon. 😢
I'd also read that RIM would no longer be able to offer its Blackberry client service in the States. No hardware and no service...not a very bright prospect. But EDGE? Very cool!

And, RIM claims to have a "work around" to bypass the technology infringement issue. Though, it makes you wonder why they haven't deployed it, instead of going through all of this w/NTP.

That said, I don't think anyone needs to worry about their Blackberry going dark. Too bad, though. I'm a Treo fan.

well, if the injunction stands and there cant be a settlement then yes, the blackberry service in the united states will be going defunct, however, not for the government and local officials.
What you missed completely, was his suggestion that NTP would be much better off coming to some kind of financial agreement with RIM. I'd doubt NTP would pass up that kind of money.
well, the whole process has to go through court cases to decide many differnt things such as if the agreement they already has should be final and if the injunction should be enforced...
the government and local officals will not be impacted if this injunction stands so cingular could sell this blackberry to them...
