Helio's First Phone Announced

don't get too excited, this is just one offering. it's a launch phone too, so it has to draw in customers somehow. The general trend of EUR getting the newest phones and services will continue (or asia if you're talking CDMA) as long as US consumers expect something for nothing. Keep in mind all of us reading this site are above average geeks. Most want a free phone, or a cheap phone with a gimmick like a camera or speaker. Other consumers willing to spend the money are less concerned with these gimmicks and make decisions based on overall phone quality.

Honestly, I thine the Euro carriers will always have things before North America. There's a much larger potential customer base in Europe with all carriers being GSM, not to mention Europe's much larger population. In North America, the market is divided between AMPS, TDMA, iDEN, CDMA, and the GSM family. Much less of a potential customer base. I think some companies are developing quad band to do a "double-whammy" and get both areas in a single handset. Not to mention Africa and Asia generally go with Europe as well in terms of frequency and technology.
