This new launch may very well prove to be more popular than anybody thinks. If Helio can draw in subscribers looking for handsets different from anything on the market, they might have themselves a very big hit. Even I'm intrigued.

P.S. Maybe this'll jolt Verizon into rethinking their handset lineup.

Verizon and Sprint is degressing the CDMA industry in United States. Verizon first introduced EV-DO and V-Cast to the shore. However, that was already introduced in other parts of the world well before 2004. I might be wrong about the date, but it is true that Verizon and Sprint were late catching up to Asians. Helio has definitely caught my attention, but I am expecting more advanced handset than that of VK's. I guess it is time for me to say good bye to my old faithful Verizon wireless. 😉

Helio is going to be a MVNO using the EVDO networks of both Sprint and Verizon.

Very interesting. How do you get your hands on these Korean cdma phones? This garbage that Verizon is slinging out there is ridiculous! I would love some info.

Are the ones providing the network for Helio. Helio is an MVNO based on CDMA. They've got carrier agreements w/both Sprint & VZW. So, they won't bring anything to market that couldn't be done by "the giants."

When Sprint first decided to 'lease' their network, IIRC they weren't too concerned about what features the MVNOs would bring to the network. As long as the MVNO's fees to use the network were greater than any direct customer losses, Sprint's fine. Either way - the MVNO needs Sprint's network, so as long as the MVNO has customers, Sprint has customers. =)

Have you seen the first handset Helio aims to to bring to market here? Verizon and Sprint aren't exactly offering anything nearly as cool.

Then you have no idea of what Sprint is going to launch next year. Things will be looking VERY interesting for the US.

Hopefully that phone in the picture won't suck.

All the experience I've had with Chinese designed and manufactured phones have been bad.

Bad RF, bad useability, bad built.

This phone looks nice, but VK is a Chinese company.
