That's just ridiculous. Very few people will actually use it. If the employee plan gives it to you for free, then I'm not complaining (like they do for vision, RL, downloads, and multimedia channels).

Employee Plans no longer provide downloads free of charge and if people currently pay $2.50 for ringtones which are under 30 seconds in length I think they will pay $2.50 to download the entire track.

On top of that, you can play it on your computer as well - so, they could even say it is a $3.50 value ($2.50 ringer + $1 for an iTunes song).

It is still rather expensive.

But, who thought the concept of purchasing music to play as your phone rang would even take off... haha! W/ companies offering only ringtones, there must be a market for it.

Remember, there are roughly 170 million active cell phones as we speak. Just because you can't picture yourself using it, don't think no one will.

Because you don't want GSM!! All the gimmicks in the world can't make up for a weak network.

Also, this can be downloaded anywhere on the EV-DO network. W/ the ROKR 🙄 , you have to be @ the computer to transfer them.

Ohhhh so i guess Cingular being a GSM carrier and having twice the amount of towers Verizon currently has is a weak network? When i worked at Sprint do you know what the biggest complaint was for churn?

Coverage 😳

So what's it like having to rent that 250$ GSM handset when you wanna go outside the US?

EDGE coverage pimpsmacks EV-DO most people who would buy the ROKR have notebooks with wi-fi cards and cellular modems.

Well, haven't had the pleaseure of going outside of Canada and Mexico. I'm sure over 90% of the US has never been off the North American continent...

"EDGE coverage pimpsmacks EV-DO..." Wow, I'm speechless! You've completely defended yourself. What are EDGE speeds compared to EV-DO right now? Oh, that's right, half @ best. Do your research and get back to me.

And by the way, "pimpsmack" is a word I used when I was in highschool, good choice of verbage though, really!!

I think the demographic Sprint's shooting for is in the 12-24 range. At that age I'm not really sure the kids even care what they're paying to get what they want.

I can imagine all the parents calling up customer service wondering why their bill is so high, get upset, complain to consumer reporting agencies and thus bringing down Sprint's overall scores even though it was the parents' faults to begin with...

That happens with any carrier's service. I'd say 99% of that is avoidable by simply taking a step back and asking yourself if your kid is old enough to handle a cell phone.
