If I was wack enough to go with CDMA, I'd definately prefer this over Motorola's crack phones.

"If I was wack enough to go with CDMA"

I'll stick with CDMA. Robotic voices isn't worth it for me to switch to GSM just to be able to have SIM cards. CDMA is catching up on the Bluetooth end of thing now. At LEAST 5 BT phones on Sprint by year's end.

The RAZR has been out for a year now. How can you justify the hype? All digital...hah! Spint has the smallest digital network of any national carrier. And the best part is that Spint is done expanding. Robotic voices?? GSM voice quality is superior to CDMA, just like Cingy is superior over Sprint.

Cheerleader. By the end of this year, they will have a much better netowkr than its competitors. HSPDA will only go 200-300k average whereas EV-DO will go 300-500k average. And Sprint is known to have somewhat better data speeds than Verizon because it's less congested. How long ago did Cingy get MobiTV? Still doesn't compare to SprintTV.

Lest we forget that Sprint has contracted with Verizon to use/piggyback on their (Verizon) towers? Sprint is digging a big hole for themselves... just hope they can swim. 🤣

This is common practice among operators and to some extent "subsidized" by the law. Long before Cingular acquired ATT, they had similar arrangements. To say more, there are several companies, specially in central US that build whole towers, with radios and everything to lease usage back to Sprint, Verizon, Cingular, etc... And there are several others that only owns a brand (like Virgin, who leases everyting) So, this does not means Sprint is doing badly, just that Verizon's coverage is better. Worst comes to worst, they merge (not likely to be allowed) and that could be a good thing.

I don't know why cing customers are even comparing themselves to Sprint and Verizion as far as data speeds via phones.. First off, Sprint has had 3g for what... over three years now... almost as much for Verizon.. I'm very happy that Cing is getting ready to JUST BARLEY release 3g capabilities.. While they are doing that both Sprint and Verizon are already producing phones that support WIFI and EVDO... Okay, lets compare.. Exp.... 3g=dial-up while EVDO=Cable Internet... Which would you rather have?... That's why everyone who wants wireless data for a phone will always stay CDMA... PLUS, last I checked Cings' MAX offer on data was NOT unlimited, and Cings' Text message only goes as far as 2500 for 19.99.. Sprint?... 5.00 for unlimited... Dat...

GSM might be considered "worldwide standard" just because volume. That does not make it better though. In fact, most GSM operators are "upgrading" their network to UMTS and UMTS is wCDMA...

That is true. wCDMA is about 20% less power efficient and not as fast (not even w/HSDPA) as CDMA 1xEV-DO, but it will eventually be more afordable, hence more people will get it and become a standard.

I wouldnt go saying its not as fast when we havent seen any real world tests from it (HSDPA) 🙂

Good point. With both being shared access, peak rates can be misleading. It will be pretty much a function of how many users get packed together, just like cable modem.

Yes, exactly, im sure HSDPA as well as EV-DO hit some killer speeds being tested with a single phone or laptop, but come game day with all the users packing into one arena, its a given that speeds are going to drop down significantly. Only time can tell.

Cingular already announced average data speeds of HSDPA is going to be around 200-300k whereas EV-DO is proven to be around 300-500k.

How do you know it's going to be more affordable? EV-DO is already up and active in Korea and Japan. How many places have HSDPA active? Do you honestly thing Qualcomm (the owner of CDMA) will licence out EV-DO at a price that isn't competitive?

CDMA is a superior technology and it's here to stay.

There's been no real world testing. What Cingular said is only a guess, obviously, considering they ***HAVE NOT*** tested it in a real world setting.

CDMA has its faults, GSM has its faults.

GET OVER IT PEOPLE, for christs sake!!

There is no one better than the other, they each have their ups they each have their downs, face reality or it'll smack ya one day int he face.

HSDPA/HSUPA can theoretically reach 14 Mbit speeds. What's the limit on EV-DO? 4.5 Mbit? Over the long run HSDPA is a better technology than EV-DO.

Cingular is simply launching at a slower speed so that they can avoid over-stressing their network until their buildout is complete.

Burst speed and average speed are two totally different speeds. Don't expect Cingular to get anywhere close to that anytime soon. 1xRTT has a burst of 144k, but is average 50-70. GPRS is burst at 56k, but average of 20-30k. EV-DO has burst of 2.5M, but average 300-500k. HSDPA has brust 14, but current trials show an average of 200-300k.

yeah they both have the pro's and con's but the bottom line is if you want to be able to change phones that may have, own, borrow from friends etc. at your own free will and keep your # just by popping in your sim and you like to change phones often whether every day or just use a diff business type phone during the work week and and more laid back fun phone during the weekend like I do then GSM is the only way to go period.

Before i start, I always am jeolous of the GSM handsets, i wish they were made for CDMA, i WISH i had a SIM card, BUT........Anyone who thinks GSM is superior to CDMA is wirelessly incompetent. No offense. Yes, Yes, all the cool handsets are made first for GSM networks, but HANDS DOWN CDMA on a proper network works and sounds better. You cannot compare the two. I am sure all the fan boys of GSM and the USA hating people who use GSM (and always bash CDMA without ever having used it) in the EU/ASIA will start flaming with this comment, but they need to really grow up and look at the technical facts. And yes, wCDMA is replacing GSM (digital technology and time division multiple access transmission methods) as the air interface. GSM (in its curr...

Wow... how pathetically WRONG in every statment! FACT, Sprint coverage is continuously expanding by adding CDMA towers to the Nextel iDEN towers. FACT, Sprint has one of the largest networks around and with digital roaming on Verizon (free on ALL new plans) Sprint actually has the largest coverage. FACT, GSM voice quailty SUCKS, has way more dropped calls, much higher radiation.but oh boy you get better battery life for people too lazy to charge their phones. Also it is more widespread in Europe and has a better selection of phones, I'll give you that. But GSM technology itself is inferior, PERIOD.

GSM is inferior to CDMA, just face it! Reserch your facts before spewing total garbage from your mouth and sounding like a whooped fanboy!

Can you prove that GSM voice quality is better than CDMA? CDMA, and any technology that uses code-division multiplexing, is superior to a time-division multiplexing scheme like GSM. Who cares that GSM is bigger worlwide? We're here in the US, and the CDMA is more popular. I don't get why people are always hyping that GSM is more popular worldwide. So what? Do you base your other purchasing decisions, like your vehicle, laundry detergent, or whatever on what's popular in France? And all this about unlocked phones...since Cingular, by far the biggest GSM carrier, doesn't support them, and mostly uses GSM 850, which isn't on most unlocked phones, it's a phantom benefit.

GSM carriers may have "better" phones here in the US (a dubious claim at...
