to my knowledge, no one has made an HSDPA phone. we will have 2 PC cards (though one is only available through B2B), but all of the 3g phones offered seem to be UMTS. can u put this protocol on a UMTS handset with a firmware update, or would it require a different Chipset? If this would require a new phone (likely 😕 ) what does everyone think/want in a HSDPA phone? im hoping for that Nokia 6280 in a HSDPA version, myself. Here's this pic

thanx, are there any HSDPA phones yet? Would they just reconfigure existing 3G phones for HSDPA, or build new models?

I'm not aware of any handsets with hsdpa yet. I'd expect to see more pc data cards for a while before a large market for HSDPA handsets develops.

the chipsets are JUST coming out so if you don't want a buggy phone, I say you'll need to wait about 6 months

Exactly, phones are like cars, wait 6 months before you buy a new one. But I know we are getting phones from Sierra, HTC and Novatel to name a few

Sometimes I wonder if any of these companpies actually test things prior to reaching the market, b/c like you said sangyup81, likely the first six months, they'll be buggy, I refuse to pay $250 or more for a 3G phone that doesn't have at least 2MP Cam, I want something I can actually use, not just some toy of a camera.

Good point about the bugs sangyup81, it's always good to be patient, that way we can read what other users have to say about it, prior to paying $250!

$250 with contract? Because without contract, $250 is actually pretty cheap.

Yeah, unfortunatley with contract, my contract with Cingular ends this coming Sunday, Oct.30.
I'm just going to go month to month, til a mobile comes out that impresses me. It's almost 2006, show me the future damn it! ! !
