Yep! ! ! I just don't get it b/c the U.S. is such a LARGE market, duh!!!!!!!!!! Who knows, maybe the FCC is to BLAME, hey, you can always blame the so called government, I'm hoping that by spring 06 there will be more 2MP CamPhones, but until there are more 2MP CamPhones, I'm not shelling out ANY $$$, to any carriers for a new mobile phone.

Deliver the futer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's almost 2006 already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all, the US isnt such a large market. There are over one BILLION GSM users worldwide, and Cingular has only 51 MILLION customers and only some of Cingulars markets witll have 3G... not a large market at all. This phone runs 2100MHz UMTS, a network non-existent in the US. So why would SE release a 3G phone in America when it cant even run 3G? Also, I hate how people complain about GSM phones not going to America. Do you know how easy it is to get any unlocked GSM phone these days? There are so many websites and eBay sellers out there that will have this phone soon after its release.

Yeah I know a site to get unlocked GSM phones.
But I'm waiting, and waiting, and waiting for 2 and 3 megapixel CamPhones. Show me the future.

Actually I never thought it like that though, you have a good point, that 5% of the world's GSM users are here in the states.

Well, hopefully Summer 06 there will be better handsets here.

US is still has more subscibers than any other market in the world. Overseas, the subscribers are spread out over many, many geographical markets. Plus its not 5%. There's about 200 million subscribers in the US. 200 million out of a billion makes 20%.

Uh - Cingular uses towere from American Tower and Crown Castle. It's rare that the cell companies 'own' towers.

I am talking about GSM alone. There are a lot more than 1 billion subscribers world wide when you include CDMA, old TDMA users, iDEN, and WCDMA. In the us, there is approx. 70 million GSM users, out of OVER one billion world wide. That is less than 7%.

So, when that unlocked phone blows up, and is technically under warranty, where do you take it?

I'm not saying that the unlocked phone market is bad or anything, it is just for the geeks. The average customer is going to want the backing of their carrier.

Just about every manufacturer won't provide warranty repair on a phone that is not authorized for sale in a given market (i.e. overseas phones in the US).

Have to disagree totally. My two previous phones were the SE Z600 and Ericsson T39M, neither released with a carrier in the US but I have sent them to SE in North Carolina for upgraded firmware or to fix problems when they arose.

Didn't matter the phone was unlocked. What do you think Cingular does with a phone when you bring it into the, hand you a new one and ship the other back to the manufacrturer.
