Nokia Announces Eseries for Business
Where's the 3G video calling?
PS all of these look pretty nice
To be honest, video calling really isn't used by many people for much of anything. In Europe it's used mainly for video broadcasts, etc. That uses a lot of bandwidth, though, hence the carrier interest in technologies like DVB-H. Video calling in general is one of the least successful aspects of 3G. It sounds futuristic and great, but in the end it just isn't very useful for most people.
the e70 has a camera but it will only be edge in the united states, but it will be on a 3g network in asia and europe of course. (first them last us.. )
it also depends how much does the video calling cost.
i also think that many carriers in asia and europe will come out with video calling first and united states will come out 2nd of course.
like i said.. its about deploying faster data speeds, not like edge, gprs, widen, 1xrtt and perhaps not even ev-do rev o. when ev-do rev a, hsdpa, wimax, ofdm, td-cdma and others come to the carriers then we will def. see video calling.
as i said the pro...

EV-DO release (the current version) doesn't support it because of latency and slow upload speeds (same at 1xRTT). EV-DO revision A will support video calling in theory...
But video calling hasn't been very popular in Europe and Asia, so it's not clear that US carriers will want to make the investment to launch it here. The available data seems to indicate that significant demand is simply not there for it.
yes, that is why i mentioned that the carriers that have 1x and going to get ev-do rev o wont be able to deploy it well anyway becuase of latency problems.
well, i think the trend in eureasia will change as more products and solutions and awareness gets out becuase this is a very nice and cool feature to have and we know that people love technology. problem is, people want perfection and a cost effective product/solution to use.
i am also a bit hesitant to say that united states carriers will do it, becuase i...

it depends... i think if the price is right then yea, but otherwise no.
also hsdpa should be needed becuase of lower latency as well as other true 3g-4g networks. i knwo rich said that 64kb/s can work, but usually there is a lot of latency on that and with push to talk, video conferencing or anything like that you want to have the least latency which means going to the highiest data speeds possible. my guess is that in 2-3 years we will see more tv solutions out there and video conferencing... if i had to guess i think we will see tv solutions (that are better then the ones out there) before video calling.
opinions?
Think about non-mobile videophones.
Ever seen one?
The technology to support them has been around for decades. The erroneous notion that there would be a demand for them was a large part of the impetus behind the development of isdn.
Fact of the matter is most people really don't want or need videophones. I worked for a tech company that had bandwidth to burn, techie clients, and a real need to project the bleeding edge image. Still no interest in videoconferencing. We just don't really want or need to have people see us.
The only thing that could possibly drive videophone usage would be voyeurs and exhibitionists desiring to display their...
