The problem is real

Both Rich and I have suffered from this phenomenon. It doesn't help that we both swap our SIMs out to new devices on a fairly regular basis. It took me months to resolve the issue last year. I get most of my messages now, but still lose some to iMessage every once in a while.

When moving over to Android from an IOS device, people have problems getting text messages too. Is this one of the problems they are referring to?

I too had this problem. But only from one person who texted me from an iPhone. None of her texts would reach me on my new android phone. Instead they would send to my deactivated iPhone. The only way to see the messages was to connect my iPhone to my wifi, smdh. As of 2 months ago all has been resolved.

Sounds like what happened when my wife went from an iPhone to Android. This only affects those contacts who have iPhones. She could text them from her new phone, but their texts to her would get lost. That's because the iPhone contacts would automatically send texts to iMessage instead of using the SMS service. What she had to do was unregister iMessage on her iPad as well. Once she did that, the problem went away.

iMessage is why "text" messages also wind up on the iPad, because it's not using SMS.

I sometimes think that it's a way to get people to stay with an iPhone. Just to "avoid the hassle" of this.

This is a huge problem that I have been contacting Apple about for a year. I swap SIM cards, I've switched through the carrier and I constantly have the problem. Unless of course I'm using an iPhone.
A simple (but not complete solution) would be to default the "send as text message" option to green. Apple defaults to off.
I'm glad someone is suing Apple, it's exactly as stated, hindering use of my number and hardware.

To get Apple to own up to the fact that anything they do might not be working properly. But honestly I hope the lawsuit goes nowhere. It's like fat people suing Mcdonald's or smokers suing the tobacco industry. You knew what you were getting up front, so what's your excuse for using their products?

"You knew what you were getting up front, so what's your excuse for using their products?"

Not quite. At least tobacco companies must put a label on their products that warns users about health risks, which will fit your statement. However, it's not this way with Apple, which labels and claims their products as "perfect". In this case, it's false adverstisement. One thing is to buy something you already know upfront, and another one to buy something you're being sold with lies/false claims.

And, I hope the lawsuit goes somewhere.

I personally have a hard time believing that anyone doesn't know that Apple does everything in its power to tie you to its ecosystem and make it more aggravating to leave than to stay. I believe that anyone who thinks other wise has convinced themselves in much the same way that a smoker convinces himself that he's ok with what's eventually coming, or that it simply won't happen to him, or that he can quit any time he likes.

Also understand that my comments are satirical and purposefully discount little old ladies, back woods rednecks, and anyone else who might be unfamiliar with popular culture, but own an Apple device.

Actually, no I disagree, people DON'T know how iMessage works, Apple does not explain that what iMessage does is act as a middle man between the carrier and the customer, it actually steps and interferes with a feature, namely text messaging, that people are paying their carriers for......many people aren't even aware that what iMessage does is basically step in as a middle man and 'read' your test messages to see whether or not it comes from an iPhone and redirects the message.....

They could have made it something like BBM and set up an independent service that would not interfere with your mobile plan, but they chose not to...

Many people simply do not understand this.
