Will this require new phones for VZW, or will VCAST phones work with this network feature?

It would require a reciever in the phone supporting that type of transmission im sure.

It will require a phone with DVB-H. It's a whole different technology and frequency band, so it will definitely require special hardware in the phone.

Does this then leave open the possibility that since it is on VZW spectrum that an MVNO like AMP'd would pick it up and VZW would stick with promoting VCAST so they didn't have to divert profits like they hate to do... 🙂 Thanks.

Huh? 😕

It's not on Verizon spectrum; it's Crown Castle's dedicated spectrum. That's the whole point - unicasting live TV (via VCast, for example) would use too much of Verizon's spectrum if it were popular. This is a broadcast technology using dedicated spectrum, so it's efficient within its own spectrum, and uses zero Verizon spectrum.

The analyst report is that Verizon will offer it, not Amp'd. Since it doesn't involve Verizon's network at all, it also doesn't involve MVNOs like Amp'd at all.

This diverts nothing from VCast. VCast doesn't offer live TV. This does. It's a perfect complement to VCast, and will probably be branded as part of VCast (like "VCast Live" or something).
