Apple Will Recycle Any of Its Products at Apple Stores

I wonder if they will recycle the 3GS whose battery smoked and sprayed stuff all over and then exploded? They wont replace it because its out of warranty and I'm not supposed throw it away because now its toxic waste, and I keep missing the HazMat recycling events.
I guess they cant say "Sorry if anything caught on fire" or "Sorry about those singed sheets on the eight year old's bed" because that would admit liability, but they surely will not, probably because they aren't sorry. But at least now I know where to take it.
