Unfortunately, telecommunications is a business where it is difficult to earn a profit, which is why the FCC created the original at&t monopoly back in the early 20th century. Most people seem to think that at&t became a monopoly by going around gobbling up smaller companies, but that's not true. The FCC approached at&t and said 'we will give you a monopoly on telephone service provided you agree to provide free phone service to customers in rural areas who are too poor to afford it' and at&t said 'sure it's a deal', and thus a monopoly was born.

You'll notice that of the four major carriers, at&t and Verizon are the only ones not in trouble, and this is largely because they sell more than just phone service. They also sell televisio...

No that is completely untrue. AT&T and VZW are just evil and made deals with the devil to get to how large they are. The angelic government who can do no wrong broke them up in an effort to thwart the devil but he is up to his old tricks again.

The only reason why the angelic warriors of Sprint and T-mobile are struggling is because they have to fight the evil of VZW and AT&T.

You are such a troll...it's really difficult to take you seriously.

The government created the at&t monopoly, and the government broke it up when it was concluded that the monopoly was no longer necessary.

The purpose of the at&t monopoly was to provide phone service to rural markets where it was too expensive to build phone lines. Just as today the big issue is 'getting internet to the poor and rural communities' in the early 20th century the issue was how to get phone service in into poor, rural communities. Just as today, the problem was that the cost was so great no one could afford to build the networks. Providing at&t with a monopoly was done for two reasons:

1. at&t was already the biggest phone company in the country and...

The government failed the people. AT&T was to forfeit any involvement with computers and was to primarily supply phones and accessories while the smaller carriers delivered the service. As little as 8- 10 years, AT&T said FU and rekindled the computer business in spite of conditions made by the breakup. It was karma to see the computer business eat away AT&T's financial bet. Since then, the government has done nothing to help the consumer of the wireless industry. It has allowed the seven baby bells to reunite over the years. Rekindling old acquaintances.

So what was the point of me and millions of others fighting for balance if the government was only going to rebuild again what it had brought down.

People are forgetting that AT&T w...

Not entirely true. Try telling that to the thousands of rural telephone cooperatives that formed because Ma Bell was not interested in fully and expeditiously serving their areas. Hundreds of those rural coops still exist today.

>>Unfortunately, telecommunications is a business where it is difficult to earn a profit,

Market research firms value the telecommunications industry at anywhere from 1.4 to 5 trillion dollars. Oh, woe is me, all those poor T-com companies that cannot turn a profit. Whatever will they do? How much ATT stock do you own that you would constantly spread this type of disinformation?

Yes, of course. It's not those shiny new 4G* networks that rake in the big bucks, but the untold trillions that...
