i would assume the diffenc would be that with goole wallt the ca is saved to you phone and with the app you most likely have to save the card information to that app itself or enter the information for it, ot too muc of a difference though

It makes perfect sense, if you step back. All it really takes is an agreement with Google Wallet and an updated app to do it this way. To accept tap-and-go payments at the store itself, though, requires investing time and money into buying the tap-and-go hardware and propagating it to all the stores.

Launching the app feature first, then rolling it out to the stores makes sense.

Honestly I think that 'tap to pay' and mobile payments in general are a solution in search of a problem. I don't think there is any market for the idea, people are terrified, justifiably of identity theft, if you have all your credit card information on your phone, then that is one more thing you have to worry about if your phone is lost or stolen. I don't think that mobile payments are something which will ever catch on. It's like the Segway, yeah it's neat, but at the end of the day, no one really has any need for it, it's just a novelty.

I'm not so sure that Paul Bart Mall Cop would agree with you. 😁

I absolutely refuse to tie my credit card to my phone. It's just plain idiotic. And that is how I know this technology will most certainly be adopted.

Every time I have ever thought, "how could anyone be dumb enough to do that," droves of people have lined up to do that very thing. Case in point, long lines for the new iPhone at every release.

Sorry, 'tap to pay' is here to stay.

no, you the DUMBASS!
do you know if you lose your wallet, people can use your credit cards to suck up all the gas at gas stations, right?
but it requires you to enter your 5 digits zip.
you wallet also have your driver license on it!

credit card on phone.
if someone stole your phone or you lost your phone.
you are REQUIRES to enter 4 DIGITS PIN in order to use Tap to pay! just like you are required to enter PIN for debit card!
and when you call your wireless carrier to report the stolen/lost phone, it automatically disable your credit card on ISIS mobile payment.

The problem with this analogy is that people tend to lose their phones a lot more often than they lose their wallets. People don't use their wallets all that often, so they keep them in their pocket, or just don't bring them with them except when they know they will need something from the wallet, thus wallets tend not to be lost unless they are deliberately stolen.

Phones however are things which people not only have with them all the time, but something that they use all the time.

I for one have never lost my wallet and have little fear of doing so. But I seem to lose or misplace my phone at least 4-5 times a week.

Your post just proves my point that idiotic people are all to eager to adopt bad technology.
