Good Customer Service...Bad Customers.

In an effort to keep customers satisfied, is this what it really takes?
Does anyone read return policies anymore, read a user manual, or do some basic research on what they buy any more?
I bought a Motorola 710 from Verizon when it first came out about a year ago. I had a basic understanding of what bluetooth was, but what the selling point to me on the phone was, that it allowed me to use a handsfree headset without wires. I plan on keeping my phone and not cancelling like many people will do. So, for those of you who feel you have been duped by your own ignorance, or even poor consumership...go ahead and cancel, get a credit...and move on.

It's not so clear cut. Bluetooth can also be used for other wireless services, such as connecting a computer to a printer. However, Bluetooth is often used to transmit files to and from devices. Files could include ringtones, wallpapers, and pictures from a camera. Devices could include mobile phones, computers, cars, and headsets.

I remember when the first complaints were coming out about file transfer, and my first response is that it was just not set up correctly to transmit pictures to the computer. I had no idea that for whatever reason the device was disabled from sending pictures to another device, instead only allowing the pictures to be sent via the VZW network at charge, when the phone actually had the capabilities (and was...

That's great that the main selling point was a wireless headset. Others, however, were lured by Verizon's advertisements of full Bluetooth connectivity, including object exchange, etc, as evidenced by Verizon and Motorola advertisements that can be seen at http://www.canyouhearusnow.net.

Additionally, Motorola representatives convinced customers to keep their V710 phones beyond the 14 day return period with promises that an updated firmware release would solve the Bluetooth omissions. Unfortunately, we know now that such firmware releases never materialized, so customers who chose to keep their phone beyond the 14-day return period were forced, by contract, to keep their phone even though it did not perform as advertised.

Your commen...

I bought my phone the first day it was out. To date, my palm zire 72 still does not have an entry to do a phone link with the 710; this isn't a necessary feature but does make doing BT linking much easier, making life easier. I thought I would be able to send address book entries and pictures to and from my PDA/phone, only to discover that aint gonna happen. Other cellular companies released bluetooth phones that allowed this sort of activity; why would Verizon's v710 be any different?

We all know the answer... now. We didn't know this in August 2004.

Oh my lord. Are you serious? Bad customers???? This whole thing was about their "Valued Customers" getting screwed. Thats why they were sued. They were in the wrong. Thats nice that you were happy, but MANY others weren't.

I'm not even a VZW customer, but what you just said was so stupid...everyone was lied to and they did research it before buying it...maybe you are the incompetent one who doesn't know the full functionality of bluetooth? did you think of that?

getnthe411,

https://www.phonescoop.com/phones/p_forum.php?p=475 »

346 PAGES of posts and most have to do with how the bluetooth is crippled and the lawsuit.

i purposely bought this phone as well as a bluetooth usb adapter for my computer for the specific reasons of file transfer, contact/calendar syncing, etc

verizon had teaser ads in august 2004 showing this hip technology dude doing all sorts of fun stuff with his v710. it's not a lawsuit because we didnt get features, it's a lawsuit because the showed/implied the phone had features that they did not allow us to use because they want to push their GetItNow service.

and they were sneaky about this (firmware updates to fix never happened) and had TERRIBLE customer service in exp...

Wow, I think I'll go sue McDonalds and Hardees beacause the my burger NEVER looks like it does in the commercial, and I'll sue Wal-mart because that smiley face is never in any of the stores.

Fact of the matter is that anyone who buys anything based solely on a commercial is plain stupid. If you had done more research than what was flashed before your eyes you would have found out that it was not capable of putting men on the moon, and as far as the reps telling you that there would be a firmware patch, well that was just them saying that so that people would not return the phone anda they wouldn't loose their commission. However when I called VZW Customer Service, I was told exactly opposite, and that there was no plans to change the s...

What if you bought a bought a $30,000 that had XM radio?

Usually XM radio has a monthly subscription, but after your first 200 miles you find out the car charges you 9.95/month PLUS 25 cents per song that you listen to (listening to a song twice yields 50 cents).

Unfortunately, you cannot return the car because there are too many miles on it. Should you be stuck with a stereo system that you don't want?

Unfortunately, VZW had deceived its customers. It advertised that Bluetooth has file transfer, and advertised that the V710 has Bluetooth. It made no mention that file transfer is not available on the V710. I'm happy you that you did ALL research, but unless you are willing to put yourself into EVERY situation that other consum...

My beef w/ Verizon is that they took an industry standard called "BLUETOOTH", which is defined by a consotrium of manufacturers who spend literally years working out the specifications of a given technology (ethernet, bluetooth, usb 2, firewire, and many others across all sorts of industries) and stealthily, sneakily, and without any forewarning, neutered the technology.

As a very PRO business and ANTI trial lawyer/class action suit business owner, this is one example of egregious action IMO and Verizon deservered to be sued. Shame some trial lawyer will cash out and we get beans for the magnitude of the breach of ethics. So, I am simply biding my time when Cingular get high speed data and I will end my five phone account w/ Verizon. Y...

And then you've got me.

Moved from L.A. back to Midwest with a choice of Verizon or CellOne.

I told the Verizon rep at the corporate store, "Here's the phones I have now with T-Mobile, a Sony-Ericsson T618 and Nokia 3650, and here's what they can do and what I want from a Verizon phone, do you have a phone with the same bluetooth functionality?"

"Yes" was the response, "The V710 will allow wireless syncing (address book & calendar), connect to a headset, and transfer pictures and files to and from another bluetooth device after paired."

Some of us were just plain lied to, and told over and over a software upgrade would be coming out to upgrade the handset after finding out it didn't do what was said.

Then, as if to give every ...

I was wondering something. With the option that you can return your phone, get a refund, and get out of contract. Is the refund Pro-Rated to what the phone is CURRENTLY selling for, or is it what you orignaly payed for it? the legal document doesn't seem to spasific, and i was hopeing I could get a lawyers view or someone who has delt with this sort of thing before. Thanks in advance 🙂
