What a joke!

I find it laughable that the government would step in to block two of the largest carriers from acquiring more spectrum at the auction. Its not like the government forced people to choose both AT&T or Verizon, it was the consumer who made the choice and they did so because these companies offered a better, more reliable network.
This would open a worm hole that would create precedent for other agencies in the future and is, in the end, bad for us consumers!
On a separate note, aren't both Sprint and T-Mobile flush with cash? Softbank is a major carrier overseas and DT is no slouch either. Sounds to me like they are trying to play possum to get their mitts on more spectrum at a lesser cost!

Wrong. Verizon is the product of a merger. Bell Atlantic Mobility, Prime Co and GTE not to mention Air Touch Cellular. They divested some of GTE's properties to Alltel and later snagged Alltel back after Alltel had gobbled up Century Tel and Western Wireless cellular properties. That's not anyone choosing the largest carrier. Lest we forget that the entity formerly known as Cingular Wireless began as the product of Bell South and South Western Bell's wireless properties coming together. Later Ameritech and Pacific Bells wireless properties were added and of course They snagged AT&T Wireless which had gobbled up Sun Com. Somehow SBC was able to buy AT&T which had once been so-called Ma Bell and here we are. Sorry but building two power ho...

What's funny is that you speak of these mergers like Bell and Air Touch were HUGE companies! These were all small companies that together were not even 20 million customers strong. Verizon took what they had, invested heavily in their network and created the mold to which other companies use as a standard now.
There is nothing, absolutely nothing stopping both Sprint and T-Mobile from doing the same. Well, there is one thing, they don't want to spend the money!!!

What's laughable is after the breakup, the local and rural carriers offered better reliable service as well as customer service while AT&T and Verizon were able to keep the wealth they had obtained under the monopoly. From '87 to '96, the three carriers I had signed on with to avoid AT&T were eventually bought by it. I couldnt escape.

So no, not everyone chose AT&T or Verizon for reliable service. Th...

John please go to rootmetrics.com and JD power. You will see that both Verizon and AT&T are rated highest in reliability of network at rootmetrics and JD power rated AT&T highest in customer service, where as T-Mobile and Sprint rated low in both.
Quit living in the past and open your eyes, AT&T and Verizon are the best and most reliable. The others are just crying foul and pouting that they have to spend money!
