Considering how the FCC has limited AT&T in the past (mergers with T-Mobile, spectrum rules, etc), this is the ONLY way AT&T can make a statement to the FCC...withholding from the auction means other companies are unlikely to meet the reserve price of the spectrum, forcing down the value of it.

I don't believe you're thinking logically. While I feel leaving the 600mhz spectrum out of the hands of VZW and AT&T is a step forward for consumer balance, handing it all over to tmobile isn't going to help the industry any better than giving it all to the two largest. It will be an astronomical financial burden and responsibilty for tmobile to utilize the spectrum in a reasonable time frame. While the lower spectrum is more desirable, tmobile already has 700Mhz spectrum for most of its markets. The concern would be to build out the rural areas. Towers, licensing and the red tape involved to add more infrastructure is not cheap nor is it guaranteed approval. The FCC needs to be convinced on how the spectr...

I grew up with Wheeler and wished him the best on our High School fb page when he went to the FCC. He has become a complete Obamaphile political hack meddling the government in where they don't belong as he did when he wanted to put FCC operatives in the major press news room to guide them as to what needed to be covered.............are you kidding me.

There is absolutely nothing 'loony' about it, Wheeler did in fact make a public statement that the FCC would begin monitoring news broadcasts for 'fairness' and 'bias' and it was only after the public responded with outrage at the idea that the FCC would be telling news agencies what to cover, that he withdrew the suggestion. This did in fact happen, it is not 'loony', unless you believe that facts are inherently loony.

You are more right than you know Dark! I too am an AT&T customer but I was very happy with Verizon when I had them. Would probably still have them but they didn't work as well in my home and places I travel.
Why I say you are more right is because the government would be limiting free enterprise by putting restrictions on goods of service. I don't care what argument people make, these restrictions are BAD for ALL business! It would start in the wireless industry and move its way into others essentially picking and choosing who can do business with them.
I am a consumer who has the luxury to afford any carrier of my choice, we are not loaded but we know what we like and don't mind spending more for quality. I have tried all the competitor...

Really? If i'm not mistaken the CCA has over 100 members! That leaves about 96 (hopefully my math is correct) left after you take out the top 4. The myth to what you speak of is what you have been told to believe by Sprint and T-Mobile. They want you to believe they can't compete with the two largest carriers when it comes to bidding for spectrum. This lowers the cost and allows them to compete in a 2 man bidding war for all the low frequency spectrum.

Neither T Mobile nor Sprint has ever shown an inclination th o build out rural areas. Too bad Sprint turned down Alltel Scott Ford way back when. Now look Alltel went and purchased Verizon instead. Well not really but I do think Verizon us being run more like Alltel was when I worked there.
