so the way im thinking of this is that ifsomeone has one of these plans and use the data instead of allowing them to still use it and just apply an overage fee theyre probably just gonna stop it completely making them change their plan most likely

I think your partly right if this becomes standard, they will either throttle you or like you say completely stop all data.

So here is the new spin maybe....we're not going to charge you for going over because we won't let you get very much over since will turn you off. Real Deal there.....

That is effectively the same thing. 2G speeds are equivalent to dial up speeds and on a smartphone with today's internet you need at lease 3G to make things useful.

Thats not true at all. I get throttled nearly every month (for the last few days-week of the month) on T-Mobile and I can vouch with anecdotal certainty that the phone does not become 'useless' at 2G speeds. You can still easily do web searches and email and use most apps just fine. Heck, I've even successfully streamed music from Google Music (though I don't recommend it).

Video will need to buffer a bit, and streaming music may skip, but most functions slow down only a little.

Whats going to happen is when the customer comes close to hitting there data cap they will receive a message with a chance to upgrade there data plan same as the new promo with the free data with the tablets...I would rather have throttled Edge Speeds than those stupid overage fee's anyday...

Yeah but Verizon is 5 dollars cheaper for the same plan as T-mobile. Unlimited talk and text and 1GB of internet for T-mobile is $50 for Verizon is $45.

Grandfathered data plans like 200MB which formerly charges you .10/MB after going over will now be throttled to 2G once you go over 200MB.
