Will their Push to talk cover their entire network or just the 850 or 1900?

Anyone have any idea?

YUP The ENTIRE network and it's next month not later this year.

They'll also let you convert a PTT call to a regular call with the push of a button have PTT messaging for when you can't answer a PTT call (yup they'll have a do not disturb option for when you can't take a call say you're out with girlfriend 1 and girlfriend 2 hitst he PTT) PTT call waiting and their PTT will be faster than Nextel once the call is linked.

I like the Kodiak RTX PTT platform but I can't crown a favorite until I see QChat from Sprint Nextel. So far RTX has the best features but we will see about speed.

Does a difference between speeds measured in milliseconds really matter?

That's Sprint....just Sprint.

Notice on the ads they took the Nextel out and replaced it with a tag line just like Cingular doesn't use anymore AT&T symbolism in their ads.

On a lot of the new ads I see, especially some of the online ones, there is not mention of Nextel. It's just Sprint with the new logo.

Yeah for sure. It's ok nextel18, I remember back when I used to be attwireless18, and I would post ridiculous topics about how AT&T had beat out every single carrier on every single topic yet again, and defend it no matter what. Then it got bought out by Cingular, and I had to change my name and ways.

It looks like you'll just have to do the same.

😛 Actually we do use a sort of AT&T symbol; the (BLUE) bars in the commercials and posters is a hold over from them. NEXTEL is gone because it sucked and SPRINT doesn't want to be associated with aloser like NEXTEL 😛

Actually, Cingular was allowed to use the AT&T Wireless name and logo for up to six months before the rights reverted back to AT&T (Ma Bell). However, with the SBC-AT&T deal, it really becomes a moot point.

we use kodiak over here at Alltel and I say its not that faster then Nextels. Its like equal to or like .02 or .002 seconds faster then Nextel. Kodiak is nice since you have all the features and can do more then what the other companies can.

What advantages come from PTT? I hated pushing a button to communicate thats why I left Nextel. If people have the same provider why shouldnt they be able to talk M2M for free without pushing the button? I guess the new phones coming out will be bulkier 😢

It depends on the person. There are times when I would kill to have PTT instead of waiting on hold to hear what I'm supposed to do with both of my hands when I'm working connecting something delicate in a machine...it's a lot nicer to wait for the beep, instead of being on silent hold waiting for the instructions.

Most people don't need PTT, but there are situations where it's better than regular voice calls.

It depends on what you want to do. If you're in a hurry and just want to ask someone a quick question, or talk to a dozen team members at once, then PTT is perfect. If you want a full-on conversation with one person, then a phone call it is.

I guess the new phones coming out will be bulkier 😢

Not necessarily. Nextel's phones are only bulky because they use iDEN, which is a relatively low-volume technology, so not as much effort has been put into miniaturizing the chipset technology. It has nothing to do with PTT per se. Cingular will be using Kodiak's RTX, which is 9...

Hey Thank's Rich Brome. Now I understand. I didnt know that you could talk to multiple people at once using PTT. Thats cool. Guess it is useful depending on how you use it.

Cingular's PTT will cover both 850 and 1900 MHz spectrum. However, it will not initially involve "affiliate" or "roaming partner" markets, so it is not the same thing as working everywhere a Cing customer can make a phone call.

That being said, it's still a far larger PTT area than VZ, Sprint, or T-Mobile....

This is true, but it should be across full cingular advertised coverage by end of 4th QTR. With Possiable handsets that provide International P2T by 2nd or 3rd Qtr next year.

No, VOIP is to slow. It runs on Circuit Switch which is faster for instant communication.
