is that the unlocking "agreement" they came to with CTIA is a total scam, you cant buy a phone outright through a carrier for $700 and get it unlocked.

You also cant buy a used phone and get it unlocked by the carrier, even if its completed its contract, is free and clear, not lost or stolen and was purchased legally. "The previous account holder will need to unlock it"... sweet let me try to contact them and see if they want to jump thru a bunch of PITA hoops to try to get it unlocked for the now owner, riiight. Especially since many people with old phones are no longer with that carrier (and usually hate them) and cannot verify the account for starters, only to find out if they can verify that the phone still wont be unlocked because "i...

Where I bought an iPhone5, and paid it off after leaving my contract.

Sprint unlocked it for me, but only for international SIM cards. It will not accept a TMobile or AT&T SIM, although the iPhone5 Sprint version is perfectly capable of working on AT&T's HSPA and some of its LTE bands.

I will never buy a crippled Sprint device again.

Why can't Android incorporate a fully integrated messaging and video chat service like Apple can?

Stupid - because yes, Play Store and problem solved - but realize most people are not very technology intelligent, nor desire going the extra steps to "Skype" each other. Why not just use a phone that is functional from start-up - including a BBM type service and a way to call and video call RIGHT from the box. Don't need to tell your friend to download any app, you just initiate with a tap.

Seamless & simple; this is why Apple excels. No, it's not the tinkerers wet-dream, but it's a very functional and simple device that just WORKS.

That is competely unture. I have an AT&T account and my friend asked if I could unlock their AT&T Note because she knows I root phones. I contacted AT&T with their online chat and asked them if I could unlock a phone because I was traveling overseas. In five minutes I had an unlocked phone that wasn't even on my account.

if you really think thats how it works you really need to look into the policies a lttle more.
nowhere does it say you have to have service to get a phone unlocked that phone just has to have the phone for 60 days, if not there would be a lot more cases of fraud so believe it or not thats actually helping you

As far as a used phone, if your selling a phone you should already have it unlocked, and if not you are able to contact the seller thats why when you sign up for things they have these things called emails.

as far as those millions of phones out there sitting in drawers nobody really wants those phones like you said theyre old phones and who knows if theyre even gonna work on most networks because networks have changed

so ob...
