Unlocked - Europe?

The review is VERY well done - thanks much!

I assume the iPhone is or will be available in Europe. If that's the case, has anybody read anything that tells whether there will be an unlocked version available there, or does one of the major European carriers have exclusivity there like ATT does in the US for a period of time? Is it two years, or just one, of exclusivity?

I want one, of course; question is whether to wait until the next revision which will undoubtedly add more features, fix bugs, and add capacity (and when my Verizon contract is out of the penalty phase - counting the months 🙂 )

I heard at&t is the only major carrier to offer the iPhone for 10 years. However, I'm not sure if it will be available unlocked.

The rumor I heard was actually five years, but that's strictly a rumor. One or two years is more likely, IMO.

Regardless of the length, it only applies to the US, and I believe it only applies to this model. If an iPhone 2.0 comes out, that would still be exclusive to AT&T, but an iPhone Nano, for example, might be for a different carrier. At least that's what I remember from the press conference at CES...

From inside at&t I understand that we have a 10 exclusive with apple on all things wireless.

That doesn't seem to be the case. Recent articles seem to be consistently saying its a two year exclusive.

Check out phone scoop and the Yahoo discussion about it, I do believe it is only 2 years. as a 10 year doesn't even make sense, because the At&t network sucks and Apple wouldn't tie itself the the inferior network for that long.

IF you check the Consumer reports from earlier this year they rate Cingular (AT&T) and Sprint as the bottom dwellers for most dropped calls, meaning they suck! For those of you who believe the hype of the fewest dropped calls get a life and do your homework, the EDGE network is so slow, even spring is faster and the verizon network is hands down the fastest. I am not trying to be negative, but remember verizon was offered the i-phone twice before they went to AT&T, Verizon felt is was not worth the hastle as they already have devices that do all that the i-phone does, just not as expensive.

In these posts, I've often seen the "Verizon was offerd the i-Phone first" line to "prove" the superiority of Verizon. Now we are saying it was offered to Verizon twice!! Well let me add to that, Steve Jobs himself came crawling on his knees to the CEO of Verizon and offered him 50% of the APPLE Corp. if he would only allow APPLE to become a part of "THE GREATEST CELL PHONE NETWORK IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND" (Steve Jobs words, not mine). Obviously, the head of Verizon kicked Jobs in the face and said "we have chocolates, why would we want you!", and sent Steve Jobs off to the hinterlands of ATT, where the phone will obviously not sell at all. I keep walking through the mall, and the ATT reps are handing them out for free w/ the purchase of a...

OK, I am not saying that VZW is not able to have issues, I am just saying that they do the best job of trying to work out the ins and give you the best customer service. VZW does not out source their CS (go over seas to get cheaper labor). Believe what you want to believe, but VZW turned down the iPhone!!!!!!!!

well if you want to get technical...

T-mobile is the largest phone company in the word.

I am not saying that Att is a good for nothing company. However, you can get a BMW or you could get a Toyota. Verizon is the BMW. And Toyota is not that bad.

You do the fact check and show me the sources.

T-mobile is World Wide. They have more subscribers world wide than anybody.

you can go to London, France, Germany...and many other countries and sign up for t-mobile.

T-mobile IS the only true international carrier in the US.

With that said...

I prefer Verizon. I actually work for an agent that sell Verizon, T-mobile, and Cingular. I personally have seen a huge drop in quality of customer service by cingular in the last few years, while t-mobile and verizon seam to be getting better and better.

Verizon Does (for now) have the absolute VOICE network. Data, I personally believe is a draw between verizon, sprint, and cingular. Customer service would go to t-mobile followed by veri...
