No PCS LTE Devices

It's too little too late as very few of their current devices support PCS LTE. The iPhone, Nexus 5, and S4, can do it.

The question is how many of those other devices can be updated with firmware OTA to support that band.

None. They don't have the hardware to support that frequency band. Even if they don't support it on the specific carrier, they needed to be approved by the FCC with support for LTE 1900, and none of them were.

The HTC One on T-Mobile does not support LTE 1900, but it does on AT&T. Aren't they the same hardware?

That's a good question, I'm not sure if they had separate FCC approvals. I haven't heard much about that phone since it's really not a great device. I'll check that out and let you know.

Did you really say that the HTC One isn't a great device???

It probably won more awards than any other Android phone. And was probably the most critically acclaimed Android phone ever.

By who, companies looking to make a profit, magazines looking for profit, and reviewers who work for those companies who are paid for their oppinions?

I have a very good friend who had an HTC One. Had, as in, doesn't have it anymore. Inside 4 months the battery went bad as determined by the carrier. Since accessories / the battery only carries a 90 day warranty, it was deemed to be out of warranty. On a scale of 1 to 10 based on repairability and longevity, this phone gets a 1. The battery can't be replaced. Pieces of the inside of the phone need to be physically broken (destroyed) to get the battery out. So suddenly a $30-$50 repair becomes the cost of a brand new phone. It's just not worth the risk, not at all. Maybe this happens t...

But HTC isn't paying those reviewers. They could have offered the same praise to many other devices out there. I've had mine since August, and it's by far the best phone I've had. It's speakers sound better than any phone I have heard. It's build quality/premium feel is only matched by the iPhone. It has a headphone amp which means it can drive higher quality headphones without distorting - I don't think any other phones, or even iPods have that.

I wanted to be able to replace the battery too, and the fact that it didn't have a micro-sd slot was a negative to me. But the iPhone doesn't have any of that either and it's pretty popular.

I saw the repairability rating - I don't remember if it was a 1, but I remember thinking it was...

The iPhone actuially has a surprisingly high rating. Heat can be applied to either side of it, and the glass comes off the front and the back of the older iPhone 4 devices. Once the glass is off, the inner LCD can be very easily removed, and it gives you access to all the guts of the phone, including the battery. On the HTC One, the battery is packed into the rear of the phone, with metal and circuit-board components covering it, and blocking it's removal.

It's not a horrible phone, but it is a $600 device, and I just can't risk a non-repairable device needing a repair that would come out of my own pocket. My buddy went from the HTC One to a Note II, and he is very happy.

I have a case on mine, so I'm not worried about it breaking. I also got on the "Jump" plan because I knew I'd be interested in getting the successor to the HTC One before 2 years was up. And the $10/mo for "Jump" includes insurance on the phone.
