Unlimited Data Now Most Expensive In Industry

T-Mobile's new $30 unlimited data makes it the most expensive in the industry.
Sprint is only $20 for unlimited data on its Framily plans. Both carriers offer no contract, both offer device financing, and while Sprint's $20 for unlimited data includes only one annual upgrade for a device, it beats T-Mobile, which would be $30 for the same unlimited data plus $10 for JUMP for a total of $40. Even if you included $11 device insurance on the $20 Sprint plan, you're saving $9 per month. Almost $110 per year.

Not saying Sprint is faster or better, but their pricing scheme is by far better than T-Mobile right now.

This coming from a hardcore T-Mobile advocate who moved lines from Sprint to T-Mobile, now rethinking my decision and likely h...

No, because where at Sprint for $20/mo could you tether your data as well, or even for $30/mo tether 5gb to your computer but still have unlimited usage on the phone?

At Sprint, you'd be paying an extra $20-80 to tether your phone on top of the phone data.

T-Mobile is still the better deal.

Why don't you just root your phone for free tethering or pay for foxfi 8 bucks 1 time for free tether. Sprint still cheaper.

Till the carrier realizes you are tethering on a non-tethering data plan, and cuts your data.

Can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not. It happened to me about 2-3 months after I started tethering with T-mobile (I don't know about sprint since I never had them) I started getting a T-mobile message on my computer browser about signing up for a tethering plan, which I did after getting a corporate discount on my monthly bill to offset the price.

Yes only T-mobile does that. VZW, AT&T, and Sprint do not do that. I do know a way around that issue though. But you have to be rooted for it to work.

Exactly that only happens with TMobile. Also if you were stopped that is because you were abusing your tethering.

If you are raking in more than 5GB of hot spot Tmobile will stop it and then charge you if you want to use it again after they have blocked it for excessive usage.

Other carriers won't notice unless you are using an excessive amount of data as well.

Tethering isn't meant to be your primary source of internet and if you do want to make it cough up the money and pay for the service like you would do with Time warner or any other ISP..

I agree with the original post because of this price hike it is now more expensive to have Tmo and unlimited data.

For the VAST majority of customers this works out better. The $20 add-on now gives you up to 5GB of high speed and you can use your data how you want with no overages. Don't need 5GB? 3GB is $10 and 1GB is at no additional charge!

The power users can still get their unlimited for $30 and guess what? It includes 5GB for tethering. Does Sprint allow this officially? Nope!

This guy just took $20 off his bill since 2 of my lines use about 800MB monthly.

I like how you added the qualification of "officially" It doesn't matter what they offer officially. What matter is what you can do and how easy it is. To get unlimited tethering with Sprint its as easy as downloading a simple app. With t-mobile its no so easy since T-mobile tracks that. If I have unlimited data I should be allowed to use it as I see fit.

Good luck using your unlimited data with Sprint. I had them and I usually got 1-2 mbps I could never use the internet because it was so slow. Now that I'm with T-mobile I average between 12-25 mbps. I guess you get what you pay for 🙂

And that's the truth. I love the T-Mobile haters on this board. Consumer friendly doesn't work for them and I get it. The mall kiosk gets pretty lonely when everyone is jumping ship.

Definitely not hating on Tmobile. Just stating facts. They have decent coverage in the city. Go outside of the city not even 20 minutes into a rural area and you have edge speeds... go inside your home and have no bars of service need to use Wi-Fi to place a call. How ridiculous is that? but a lot of the Tmo troops out there on this board are right. You get what you pay for. I have Tmobile simply because they let me use the phone I already had and because of that my out of pocket cost was none.

Hopefully all carriers jump on board with that soon. I know Sprint has as well. I might check them out now that they have Spark in my neighborhood 50mbps. With Tmobile in my area right now I only get 4-6mpbs because the area is more congested with...

Well I already tried T-mobile and would only get EDGE speeds which I'm pretty sure is slower than 1-2mbps. Nice try. 🙄

I see 20-25 down and 15-20 up all the time, and peaks of 50 down and 35-40 up sometimes. Its way faster than my cable connection at home. Plenty of speed for a mobile phone and for tethering at work 🙂

Positives about T-Mobile's unlimited data.

1. It's high speed, I don't hear very good things from Sprint's customers when it comes to speed.

2. Mobile hotspot is included at no extra cost.

Precisely! More value! People need to look beyond the dollar amount, and lok at what their getting for their money.

Now what about those of us on the older/current plan?
I have an S4, when I upgrade and start over on a new EIP will I be forced onto the new $80/mo plan?

I don't think so. The EIP is only attached to the phone so your plan shouldn't be affected.
