So is this real LTE Advanced or is this "HSPA+ is equal to 4G" LTE Advanced?

Well seeing as HSPA+ is 4G. Does it really matter?

G stands for generation right? So was HSPA to HSPA+ a new generation of technology like how EVDO to LTE or WiMax was, or just an upgrade of the current generation?

And for that matter would you call this even an upgrade to the current technology or just expanding what's available for the the current technology?

Yes because HSPA+ consists of new technologies like HSPDA and HSUPA. There is a lot of new technology in HSPA+. And there is no EVDO to LTE or WiMax. LTE and WiMax are not in the same family as EVDO. The evolution of EVDO is DMB. And when you get the same speeds on HSPA+ as LTE can you really call that a new generation?

Do you have any idea what 4G is? There is an actual 4G specification, which no current network in the USA lives up to. When these networks finally reach speeds of 100mb/s down, we MIGHT be able to start considering them as truly 4G.

Furthermore, T-Mobile's HSPA+ network is still just an upgrade to their existing 3rd generation network. It's not a 4th build out of a network. It doesn't meet the definition of 4G by any standard or definition. I'm surprised there isn't a huge class action lawsuit over their fictitious advertising.

Truthfully, it doesn't matter what the 'technical definition' might, in reality, there is no such thing as '3G', '4G' etc, these are marketing terms, a way for carriers to convey to consumers, who do not understand what terms like HSPA+, LTE etc mean, that their networks have been improved and updated and are now faster and better than they used to be.

There's no point in trying to get ordinary, non technical consumers, to understand the subtleties of HSPA versus HSPA+.....the only thing that consumers know is the 'G' terminology, and even then they came to understand it only after YEARS of marketing by the carriers, constantly hammering '3G', '3G', '3G', they don't actually know what '3G' means either, they just have a vague idea that it...
