Loss of turnkey

The biggest issue is the loss of the Sprint Kiosks, Sam's Club Kiosks, and finally Target Mobile is the reason why they are now suffering. Those operations made Radioshack the largest cell phone dealer in the US. Now they are down to their core retail stores and that is not where they want to be. If they had prepared better and retooled and remarketed their stores before, when they had many streams of revenue, this wouldn't be the disaster it is now. Hope they don't close the one next to my house. I never know when I will need some rosin core solder! Lol

Where are you at !?

I mean , the main reason I still prefer retail is because I hate waiting on the shipping times and if I need exchange or refund it's much faster.

I am currently working in the Wireless Center at Walmart.....we sell all carriers, pre-paid and post-paid both, and I spend hours a day doing basic things like activating the per-paid service card for customers because it 'so confusing I don't understand how to do it'...apparently going to the 'pre-paid' menu on the phone and entering the PIN from the card, or calling the phone number on the back of the card and providing the PIN is too complicated....

Some of these customers are so helpless that when I tell them that the way to switch from one pre-paid at&t phone to another one is as simple as swapping out the SIM card from one phone to the other, they complain that I am being too technical, and they think I'm a genius because I can remo...

HAHAHA. Walmart cellphone center is the biggest scam ever. Horrible customer serivce. Associates who are folding clothes one day and then selling cellphones the next. Breaks all the time. Associates who don't know the first thing about cellphones.

And that last part about the person paying for iPhones in cash? Yeah those are drug dealers. I bet you have people coming in with their "Auntie" or Uncle, or mom, or dad wanting to get 2 or 3 iPhones on a contract and pay with cash and not get accessories or insurance. That is called fraud. I have to deal with your customers coming here and trying to pull the same stuff. I tell them no.

No, they aren't drug dealers, just poor people. The poor, I'm sure you've met some in your time, tend to pay for everything in cash because they have bad credit and can't get a credit card, they also can't use checks because they have so many bounced checks that they are flagged and the system rejects the check practically the instant they approach the cash register. It's like that old episode of 'Married With Children' where Al tries to pay for $2 in groceries with a check and discovers that there is a picture of him behind the cash register with the words 'do not accept checks from this man'. Thus, for the poor, cash is really the only payment option.

And I've been in the mobile business for years and years, working for both at&t ...

Oh so they are too dumb to manage their own money. Thats much better.

If you are qualified and know what you are doing wouldn't you make more money making commision? Or working at bestbuy for $12 an hour?

I am not saying that you are not qualified or knowledgeable. I don't know you. I am going to err on the side of caution and believe that you are qualified and knowledgeable. I was merely asking why you don't have a better job. When I was a event rep for Marketsource working inside of Walmart I hated it because the Walmart employees were never there and never cared about making sales because they didn't get paid for them. I quit after 2 weeks because it was horrible working there without support.

T-Bone,
I'm amazed at our country that supposingly professes Christian Values, and at the same time has this hate for the poor. Yeah some maybe scam artists or drug dealers, and some rich people are scam artists and drug dealers as well. I'm sure people who need help can get frustrating. But really isn't all that much to provide help?

And I don't understand why people are getting down on people who work for Walmart, OK someplace I wouldn't want to work, but its a job, and the people working their shouldn't be insulted for working. Don't like it there, don't go. I admit I may have said things on different subjects that can be condensending, but 95% of the times its a reaction to some post.

Since when is it fraud to pay for anything in the United States of America with US legal tender dollars? Also, when did it become fraud to buy something without purchasing accessories and insurance? Do you work for BestBuy or something?

You are correct it is not fraud to purchase items with legal US tender, however it is fraud when the customer signs the 2 year contract and then ports the number out to a prepaid device, which in turn cancels the account with the carrier that holds the 2 year contract, and then resells said iPhone instead of returning it to the store they purchased it from. I causes the carriers and the stores millions of dollars a year. That is what fraud is. Most of the customers that commit fraud want the cheapest plan available, no accessories, and do not purchase insurance or protection plans. They also pay for the device with straight cash and usually pull out huge rolls of cash to do so. I work in the Mobile Phone Industry and we are told by the ...

when did they say they were doing an upgrade?
he said they pull out the money if i remeber correctly paying over $2000 for 3 phones, thats clearly not a 2 yr contract thats full retail so they can do whatever they want for the phone, pretty sure thats not fraud if theyre paying full retail

then said phones become blacklisted and are of no use to anybody. problem fixes itself. dumb people that are buying phones should call the carrier before purchasing a phone anyways and make sure they are not stolen and out of contract. duh

I specifically said iPhones purchased at full retail price, unlocked iPhones to be exact, to be used on the Straight Talk service. Since Straight Talk is a pre-paid carrier with no device subsidy, paying full retail is the only option. Buying an unlocked iPhone to be used on a pre-paid account isn't fraud, fraud would be buying a locked iPhone with a contract, cancelling within 30 days, and then selling the phone on EBay for 3 times what you paid for it.

And people do buy multiple iPhones all the time, the whole family wants an iPhone so they buy an iPhone for every family member.

At Walmart it is only iPhones, as iPhones are the only unlocked phone we sell, and no one ever wants to buy a locked phone at full retail.

Wow your'e one of those nice guys. The Walmart in my town doesnt assist customers with the phones or phone cards they sell, and only activate the post paid phones. I work at radioshack and we get people bringing walmart cards in to my store asking me to help them with putting it on their phone or asking me to activate a phone (which makes me angry because they didn't purchase it from me). But, I like what you do! Actually the whole electronics department in my walmart is terrible. I wish we had people like you working in ours!

I managed one of the SCKs for years. The stores in my district were all profitable. The problem was Walmart Inc's basic intention was only to have them there to get the wireless up and running with a customer base. When the contract was up, all we got was a conference call saying that we are basically being swept out by WM. They refused to renew the contracts and figured they could make more by doing it themselves at that point.
