Based in the amount of downloads I'd say you're wrong.
This may sound shocking to your self-centered mind but, the U.S is not the only country in the world. BlackBerry still sells in other regions (and pretty well), which is more than enough reason for them to keep updating and developing.
...and it still sells here in the U.S. Obviously, not the leader in the market, but it still sells. And most of BBM for Android/IOS downloads are from the U.S.

I like the app. I have been using it since it first launched however, it lacks some features and they desperately need to take care of that before everyone realizes that what they can't do on BBM they can do on other apps like Whatsapp for example.
