Interesting sound bite from the FCC that had to think for almost a year to come to the same conclusion of a merge more obvious of higher skepticism. The ATT/Tmobile ordeal shouldn't even have been allowed as a concept. But, it did because of the financial pork barrel involved by one of the largest carriers.

I have always been against losing competition. But, it is clear that the industry's two leading carriers will forever be written as to remain the only two large carriers. No one will be allowed to compete on the same level. With the amount of small carriers going the way of south, Sprint or Tmobile will continue to get the small remains of the duopoly and never catch up. The time is now to move. The Goliaths need a larger Sampson.

Valid points but the main thing with this softbank proposition of course is. We don't want Sprint coming in & messing up Tmobile's strides & if it did happen def not Hesse in charge of things!

Everyone seems to have a negative impression of Sprint and Dan Hesse. The reality is that he inherited a mess from the previous CEO. Gary Forsee literally lead Sprint into a bees nest and then walked away. In spite of bashing and hate from readers, Sprint has made vast improvements with what they have to work with and have continued to remain number 3. While TMO, Verizon and ATT appear to be ahead of Sprint in regards to LTE launches, we must remember that the three have provided only overlays on their network which allows a faster rollout. Sprint is dealing with total teardown and rebuild of the network. This doesn't happen overnight and it cost a ton of cash. From what I am hearing and witnessing in my area, Sprint is moving rather quickly...

I agree with you completely. People just want to hate without focusing on the good progress they have made recently. The fact is though they are on the upswing especially with the Softbank acquisition. I happen to be a satisfied Sprint customer. I'm in an area where the 4G rollout is nearly complete. I have noticed a huge change in speeds overall including 3G. One thing I don't want if the merger goes through is for Sprint to swallow up the T-mobile brand people have come to love. I live in an area that doesn't have T-mobile. I would love to see that brand here.

Hesse might have 'inherited a mess' (the same excuse that Obama uses to justify his incompetence) but the fact of the matter is that he's been there long enough that he really should have turned the company around by now...but he hasn't.....indeed, if anything things have gotten worse, not better. We keep getting told that the great Sprint comeback is only a year or two in the future....well we've been told this for 6 years now....and yet this great 'comeback' we keep hearing about never seems to come to fruition, it is always still a year or two away.

And you don't think Sprint knows this? There are many corporate managment employees and engineers that read these tech sites. They acknowledge the views and opinions expressed. You must feel Sprint is deliberately trying to lose customers.

Sprint has essentially recognized a need to quit using bandaids on the network that has been patched together over the years to make all the frequency bands operate. So, it has made the decision to risk pissing consumers off by literally tearing out the whole network and rebuild it. Dan Hesse was straight forward of what needs to be done on this. No lies. No masking the issues. Yet, people expect overnight results. Not going to happen.

Why does DT want out? They want to cash in their chips while they're on a roll. Both one is going to compete with AT&T and Verizon...not even a merged Sprint/T-Mobile entity. If the FCC is basically stating that none of these four will be allowed to merge...I'm good with that. They should also make it clear that AT&T and Verizon will not be allowed to acquire any other carriers going forward.

DT has viewed the landscape. TMO cannot grow in the present status of the industry just as Sprint has viewed the same outline. This is why it was willing to sell to a worthy purchaser. Yes, and Dan Hesse helped make that decision. TMO needs the same. To remain a strong contender, it takes more than just subscribers to build. VZW and ATT have essentially mutated the form of what appears to be two huge competitors yet together work as a team. Allowing no other resistance. Swapping assests at will. Whether you are a TMO fan or Sprint fan, my opinion is that the differences need to be put to rest and focus on rehabilitating the industry with a third power.

I also am good with Sprint and TMO remaining separate entities. However, we must then...

Hello. Wow good reply & again you make valid points. BUT at least in my opinion I would rather have the overlays as long as things are working fine. I am happily running Moto G currently on Tmobile & there HSPA+ is great. I sometimes can't even tell the difference between it & LTE devices I have had. Granted Tmobile has there areas of edge they need to update too. The problem with Sprint though is now in 2014, there should be no reason why in major areas like here in Las Vegas for them not to have at least useable 3g service by now. I remember being in Disneyland even & Sprint did not work whereas my Tmobile was just fine. They are also the only carrier that still has a dropped call problem here. They have been using that network vision ex...

I certainly appreciate a more respectable response as you have given rather than someone that is driven by misaligned perception. I understand your preferences and opinions. That is what makes for more interesting and healthy debate.

Most welcome. Ya I find it funny sometimes when people argue over this kind of thing. To each there own why we have choice right. I really would not mind the merger as long as GSM stayed of course. Which I cant see any reason why they would eliminate it and the positive things stayed as well & continued to improve. We shall see. It will prob be a while..
