This is very, very good news. Hopefully this will be shot down before it ever comes to fruition. I'm not sure how Son is going to try to convince them that this would be good for the people and good for competition, most people can see already that clearly, it would not be.
I think the problem is these high-level talks. Is somebody inhailing helium? They should try hexaflouride, then they can have some low-level talks 😁

Seriously though, the last thing we need is a third Verizon clone.

Once a corporation, ANY corporation becomes that big, and powerful, with that many dependent customers, they can then re-write the rules of the game. It's bad enough that 2 carriers do it, but this merger would create 3, LARGE carriers, who would then pretty much control everything, and your choices would be limited unless, in most cases, you want to go with a small regional carrier, who will probably have a limited calling area and domestic roaming charges being a possibility.
I hate companies that just throw money at a problem, or buy up another company instead of really hunkering down and fixing their own problems like they should.

If Softbank/Sprint gets this deal to go through, it will be Nextel times two since they are incompatible networks. Sprint has proven time and again that they can't run two different networks. They can barely run one by itself. It would be a bad deal for everyone as you would have millions of people leaving Sprint/T-Mo to go to Verizon/ATT as a result of their merger and the big mess Sprint would create trying to merge. It's best to leave four carriers and leave well enough alone.

Considering the Nexus 5 is a GSM phone that can also run on Sprint (CDMA) then it's very plausible that future phones could utilize both networks.

This sucker's need to leave T-Mobile alone,

This perticular comment needs to be sent directly to the heads of the FCC, each and every commissioner. Your right, customers will run from Sprint's messy management to the already way, way too big ATT & Vzn. FCC needs to see your comment!

Except that Sprint and T-Mobile can't compete on their own against the monsters of AT&T and VZW. Combined they don't even have as many subscribers as AT&T. But combined they have a chance of competing with the big two

I don't, once the Sprintards get their hands on TMO it will be Nextel and Clear all over again. These guys can't manage a Portapotty never mind another mobile network. Leave TMO alone.g
