They bought the patents for 10 billion. Payed 12.5 for Motorola with the patents and sold it for 2.9 without patents. They got everything they wanted. Smart business move.

"Smart Business Move"

So they paid 10 billion for about 100 million dollars worth of patents.

If you think Motorola patents were only worth 100 million you are sadly mistaken. i admit my math was wrong but read this and decide if it was a "Smart Business Move".

Smart business move maybe if you're Gordon Gekko or Mitt Romney where you buy businesses to harvest like crops. I doubt the folks that got laid off by the Google buyout think it was such a great business move.

The people who got laid off would have lost their jobs anyway when Motorola went bankrupt and ceased operations if Google had not bought it.

Let's not pretend that Motorola staying the same size forever was ever an option.
