Qualcomm Buys Palm and Other Patents from HP

I know Qualcomm manufactures mobile hardware but not necessarily phones. I wonder if Qualcomm will do anything with those patents towards reviving Palm? It's very unlikely but it would be really cool to see another competing OS.

In the spirit of Linux WE CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH!!!!
Personally, I would like to see Windows phone,Blackberry, Firefox, and Ubuntu phone pick up some more market share just to put pressure on Apple and Google.
If web-OS resurface great, after using Linux for a while I've learned even though we have a million different Distros there is a handful of main ones (Debian, Fedora, Arch, Slackware, Ubuntu, Linux Mint) and people fork one of these (or one of their many forks of forks) either for philisophical reasons, company reason (GooBuntu comes to mind), or just because among hundreds of other reasons.

The reason Linux has never "taken off" and would not even in phone form. Is not everyone has the technical know how to fix their phones/computers if there is not a good customer support department to help them out. Where Android is doing things right is they have great companies like Motorola, Samsung and LG make their phones and learn their operating system, and then give them great tools and training to help out the average mom and pop who run into issues with their phone. Linux has always been supported by forums and youtube videos it is totally not user friendly.

I completely agree Linux will not take off in the consumer market without a company(ies) willing to take the burden of that overhead, like Steam and possible the OEM will probably have to for SteamOS.

Yes I do realize this, and Chromebooks are Linux to and they seem to be taking off nicely. If it uses the Linux kernel its Linux in my book but then theres people who say that its not Linux because its not compatible with any Linux applications.

I'm pretty sure they'd mostly be interested in some obscure portion of the patents, possibly some kind of processor modification/design that palm was using/developing.

Yeah, I think so as well. But the rebirth of an extinct OS would be cool although it's not going to happen.
