Status Quo is a non-starter

Seems like everyone around here has an opinion that is a variation on status quo;

- Sprint stinks. Don't let them mess up TMUS.
- we like what TMUS is doing. Let them keep it up.
- The feds won't/shouldn't let this happen.
- We need to have 2 national GSM operators

The reality is that status quo is a false choice.

1. DT wants to sell TMUS and in my opinion will do so to whomever brings a credible offer to the table. TMUS is a drag on DT's earnings and despite the positive news under Legere & Co., DT wants out.

2. Both S and TMUS are too small (subscriber wise) to grow out of their urban/semi urban availability. They don't have the subscriber base to support the capital investment in infrastructure and also deliver acce...

My biggest concern for the future with a combined T-Mo and Sprint is that, even with Network Vision, Sprint's systems are absolutely awful. I just switched away from Sprint to T-Mo and it's night and day. Everything from SMS, which we've all known for ages is slow on Sprint, to the backend account and billing systems is just tremendously better at T-Mo.

At this point with Sprint being such a damaged brand, I feel like the best thing Softbank can do now is take over the financial backing of T-Mo from DT and work on merging the network assets without disrupting operations for either carrier and phase out Sprint entirely. The brand name could be revitalized for some service(s), but I think T-Mo has a great thing going and Softbank should ...

I'm sure that there will be some negotiation around the T-mobile brand, as its owned by DT and it's used in many countries. I agree that the brand equity of T-Mobile is far higher than Sprint, but the brand may go when DT divests its interest. Perhaps the Sprint and T-mobile brands are retired in favor of the SoftBank brand (I wouldn't be in favor of this, as the cost of re-branding would be an additional expense). Perhaps they make Sprint a sub-brand of T-mobile, focusing on a specific market segment. Perhaps they just let each go their way, noting that the customer demographics of each are diverging. They've talked about bringing back the Nextel brand along with retiring Boost and Virgin Mobile so it's not a far stretch to consider ma...

I simply lose control when people compare past branding with current trend.

Sprint has been very honest and upfront with the pain and frustration that would be weighed on the consumer through the network vision project. Here in Rochester NY, the dropped calls and poor speeds have been horrid since the start of the project here. However, as the 3G service is replaced with 4G throughout the area, it is like you say; night and day. My speeds have been excellent and dropped calls are becoming more scarce. The network is far more balanced and dependable than ever as it evolves.

Sprint is not out to purposely loose customers. They notified us that we would experience issues during the upgrade and told us to keep track of said issues. So fa...

But the whole issue is that Sprint's network team can't find a seamless way to transition to 4G LTE without having issues. You don't see Verizon having the same issues and they use the same CDMA technology!

I have a good friend that uses Sprint as his work phone and Verizon as his personal. Luckily he has a personal phone because they had two towers down for most of last week in the city where he works. Because of this his boss is now looking to switch because they can't afford anymore hiccups!

My point is simple, you may pay a little more with AT&T and Verizon but you get QUALITY service. With Sprint you get service interruptions and long hold times to get your problems solved. If you want to compare how the networks stack up just g...

---"My point is simple, you may pay a little more with AT&T and Verizon but you get QUALITY service. With Sprint you get service interruptions"---

Your point is made harshly and irrationality amidst a topic of irrelevance in the quality of service regarding the two major players of the US wireless industry. It seems throughout this topic, you've made statements to push the two largest carriers while dismissing the efforts of a carrier that has remained number 3 regardless of perception. Verizon Wireless and AT&T have been the beneficiaries of a monopoly seperated years ago. Using their financial clout to quell any new or upcoming competition that proposes a threat. Consistently fighting the government against imposing rules that may work ...
