A recent article mentioned that Verizon is considering making an offer for TMobile. Sounds like an attempt on AT&T part to erode the base of subscribers

nah the fcc/gov wont let that go through with Verizon buying tmobile. Sounds more like att trying hard to keep the slipping top three the only main and since they operate on a lot of the same tech tmobile steals more of there customers then Verizon.

Not the same technology so not gonna happen.

Verizon nearly shyt themselves when ATT tried to buy and helped get it blocked....the same thing will happen is Verizon tries the same routine.

agreed. Its a big move that prob wouldn't happen but technology doesn't matter as much especially as the higher end phones have gsm and cdma and with talk of lower end phones being changed up a bit I'm sure if Verizon was allowed with out the fcc stepping in then theyd buy it if they could raise the cash

I wish that Verizon and Sprint would both forget about TMobile. I say they should both concentrate on obtaining US Cellular because that gets you into more rural markets.

Verizon doesn't need to puchase T-Mobile or US Cellular. Now Sprint on the other hand? The only problem with this would be Sprint would be eliminating one of the top 4 US carriers and when AT&T tried to do this Sprint's whole argument was that eliminating competition was wrong! I believe Dan H words were something like "The US can't survive on only 3 major carriers because they will swallow up the little guys"

Yeah... but now SoftBank is just about in charge over there...

That, and with everyone merging onto LTE technology, there is less incentive to keep four major competitors. The original rationale for four was that you had two per each major technology... two for GSM, two for CDMA. Now everyone is going to be on LTE all together, so that rationale breaks down unless someone can rework it quickly enough to give four major competitors a reason other than "we need four major competitors". The other thing to keep in mind is that if you combined Sprint and T-Mobile, you would still not get a block of subscribers as large as that of either AT&T or Verizon. I am sure that this fact alone will be used to show the FCC that there is precedent for...
