Thank you T-Mobile for changing the way carriers do business in the U.S. It's amazing to me the way the big two acted when T-Mobile started it's uncarrier pitch only to be following suit. And don't reply with " Verizon isn't doing it yet"...they will. Consumers want it. They want more transparent and fair practices from their providers. This is the way they've been doing it over seas forever. Now they just need to let you get rid of the device cost when it's paid like on JUMP and the other similar plans.

It is a welcome change. Before this, AT&T Next was a straight-up scam, paying two subsidies only to trade in the phone after 12 months to get a new one. $15 is a bit low, but it's a start.

Wait. Did they jack up the cost of adding a device to a Mobile Share plan? It was only $30-35 a month or two ago, wasn't it?

Before, it depended on how much data you had. It ranged from $50/month for 300 MB (per smartphone) to $30/month for 10 GB and up, with each non-smartphone being $30/month no matter what.

Now, it's a flat $40/month per smartphone if you get it with a contract, or if you're off-contract (or have AT&T Next), it's $25/month. Non-smartphones are $20/month.

Meh. That's still no incentive to switch from my granddaddy unlimited, despite their draconian throttles. And, if I'm reading this right, you only get the $15 discount if you're on Mobile Share, correct?

Right, only the new Mobile Share plans. If you have a current one, you can keep it.

Only real reason to switch is if you want mobile hotspot on your phone. Or if you don't use your phone that much and have multiple phones. I never push switching off unlimited data.

If you're rooted, you already have hotspot. But that's not a feature I care about. My home Wi-Fi is plenty fast. But they did raise some of their Mobile Share prices, while ELIMINATING ALTOGETHER other plans. You can ONLY get Mobile Share now (unless you're grandfathered), an operator told me earlier today.

For better or worse, I have 3 off contract smartphones with AT&T, I am going to visit one of their stores Sunday or next week to see what will happen. In anycase whatever I do save its better then nothing. And hats of to T-Mobile for setting this trend.
