Kill switch concerns

I start to worry about the "kill switch" being used by someone other than the owner. (A jealous partner or careless child) If the lost/stolen database was used properly it would eliminate the need for domestic kill switch.

Many phones have security built in or available as an app. Do we really want all of our phones with US Government software added to protect us? A mandatory "kill switch" might involve easier tracking of cellphones and I value my privacy.

If the smartphone is rendered useless then is all the data within it now lost forever? If not it can still be retrieved and that could be more costly than the price of the phone.

Devices already can be Sim-locked with a PIN code and that has proved to be a headache for many who u...

As long as you aren't doing anything bad then you shouldn't have to worry about your privacy.

I would think that the password for the kill switch would be private and not known to anybody else.

The government could use the kill switch to stop drug dealers.

Ok but really think about this. I believe this is an easy not very well thought answer. It's easy to see this point but on moral(etc) concerns do you really want the government knowing everything about you. Yea "who cares if they know where you are or what brand underwear i buy", but why do they need to know? All this information is used for things for what advertisements to give you or what areas you visit, all this information is used to create profiles of each and every person. And you might not care except the real criminals now have your information if (and when, This WILL happen) and what hap...

Criminals are going to use my habits to cover a crime?

Does that even make sense?

The government already knows where we are based off our cellphones.

Oh and the big thing is that you can choose not to have a cellphone. Or have it off and only make outgoing calls.

Why don't we let the NSA encrypt the information. They haven't been hacked.

"As long as you aren't doing anything bad then you shouldn't have to worry about your privacy. "

That's the rallying cry for the police state.....there are plenty of places reasonable people want privacy that have nothing with shame or illegality. I want privacy in my bedroom on my wedding night even though I'm not doing anything wrong, I want privacy in the bathroom even though I'm not doing anything wrong. Bottom line is....most people are not exhibitionists by nature and they don't want others to be watching them 24/7. Heck, I think even exhibitionists sometimes want a little privacy.

Nobody is trying to peek in on you in the bathroom. Everybody already know when you are home because they can see you entering and exiting your home. So what is your point?

Yea its one thing if your going to sit out side and watch my front door all day but another to have a sensor above head reporting where I am all the time I have my phone on me...

You phone already has that sensor. Its called connecting to the cell tower. Forget about GPS for a second. Any cellphone...All cellphones, from smartphones to basic phones connect to cell towers allowing for a determination of where you are. If you don't want to be tracked then you can't use a cellphone. even a flip phone.

That's just nonsense. If you are doing nothing bad then why not use your name and address in this forum. You shouldn't have to worry about privacy.

There is software available for laptops, computrace, that can act as a kill switch and locator for your laptop. These things have been available for a long time but are not mandatory. In fact, the federal government mandates that their laptops do not have this and also many agencies don't allow WiFi either.

There is always a chance that the software could be exploited and used maliciously by a third party. Since I pay for my phones and don't ge...

😳 WHAT?!?!? They don't??? I think they are all pretty smart just selfish people. we still have the choice to vote for our politicians for now... if you vote Obama in then thats what you get. Its the people that don't take enough time or thought to vote for the right people or let them get away with saying things and then doing the complete opposite without punishment then that's what the american's get. Give it a few till they get to selfish and the public suffers enough under their own stupidity and the government will have to change or get overthrown...
