AT&T helping the competition?

Okay is it just me or is AT&T finding ways to help fund the competition?

Cause 1): AT&T had to pay T-Mobile cash and give them Spectrum for the break up fee of their failed merger.

Cause 2): Now AT&T has to pay Sprint Millions if AT&T gets approval to buy Leap.

I know Sprint would have got this money eventually but now Sprint gets it all at once.

To me AT&T is secretly helping the smaller competition, although even if that was true they would never publicly admit it.

Maybe so, but I doubt its from the goodness of their hearts. Oddly Sprint who was vocal over the TMO merger, has been dead quiet on this. Wonder if their new masters at Softbank shut them up for some reason we have no idea about. BTW $120 million (or whatever) to AT&T is like you and me buying tickets to a movie.

Different situations. A regional prepaid company vs the fourth largest nationwide carrier is why it doesnt matter to Sprint. This really doesnt effect the level of competion in the market, so any arguement would be without legs. Sprint didn't oppose Verizon buying Altell or T-Mobile buying Metro.

I think that is very true as well. Just don't understand what AT&T is going to with having AIO and Leap as individual MVNO's. I know Sprint does it with sucess.

I wouldn't doubt if they merge AIO to Leap, better marketing and Leap has a somewhat name recognition.

And I do know, Leap isn't really doing well as it is right now.

Their was an article and that At&t will rebrand AIO as Cricket if this deal goes through. They seem to want the spectrum Cricket owns and it's name. Seems to be similar to what Tmobile is doing with Metro PCS they are launching it in new markets as Metro PCS. If this information isn't here on Phone Scoop chances are I read it on theVerge

Don't forget...at the end of the day AT&T is eliminating a competitor. Verizon and AT&T's ultimate endgame is two carriers. They'll settle for four...for now.
