Not like you're installing a printer or scanner. LOL. Not even a graphics card. Phones use SOCS for computing, they either support the hardware or not. Putting separate components for essential tasks (such as radio modules or so) would signicantly increase the bulk and power ussage of any device.
Most likely discrete devices like cameras, speakers, and even ram modules will be interchangeable, but not the CDMA module for a GSM one.

Maybe even a display or fingerprint reader!
