Fingerprint Scanner security

As far as maximum security goes, the fingerprint scanner is a step back.

If you have a PIN that you never tell anybody, nobody will know it unless they guess. If you have serious information on your phone, maybe security is also a serious issue for you. A professional can easily find, and lift your fingerprint off of almost any surface. Scan it at 2400 DPI, print it at 1200 DPI using raised ink, and then use a latex substance to create a "fake fingerprint" that can then be used to steal your data. Oh, and this method was found to work on the iPhone fingerprint scanners 2 days after the phone was released.

Seems like a step backwards.

this is far from a step backwards, the method they used to unlock the iphone only works in perfect circumstances, circumstances that if were even slightly off wouldnt work, in the real world you would have to have very expensive equipment to get a print that is goodenough to use, the guys that hacked it even said that, people that could do this would have a even easier time cracking you password, the fingerprint scanner is a lot more secure for every day use then a pattern unlock or 4digit pin, both are easy to get past just by simply looking over the persons shoulder

imo, its just a fun gadget. i believe it was just for someone to say i was first to put out this option. as always others soon follow suit. it just happens that iphone was first. not saying they are better, just first. well as far as i know, they were first... again just another cool gadget....wouldn't surprise me that there will be lawsuits about it later. that seems to be how this industry works....

Motorola was first with the fingerprint scanner back in 2011 on the Atrix. It barely worked and the one time a friend showed me how it worked his phone froze up.

i think it will actually catch on, as long as companys do it right(like apple with touch ID) we will see once more peaple start reviewing HTC's version, but if most people get the same results as Eric did with it only working 50% of the time then it wont get very for in the wireless industry, but with my iPhone 5s it works over 99% of the time and its fast unlocking my phone with touch id then without any securitym

I also dont see apple sueing HTC atleast do to they use different styles of fingerprint scanning( htc with having to swype and apple just putting you finger on the scanner)

unless they want to get sued by Motorola, which was the first phone manufacturer to add a fingerprint scanner on a smart phone. Motorola had access to this technology, and implemented it on a smart phone back in 2011 in their Atrix model.
