Might as well shut down the rest of the network

Shut down the EDGE and GPRS areas. Save some money. It really seems as if T-Mobile has no desire to compete outside of the top 20 cities and to only target those who never leave a major metro area.

Why bother covering those 75 million with GPRS and EDGE? Maybe it is cheaper than paying roaming fees. Too many areas in the northeast haven't been touched since Omnipoint.

I still trying to make my mind between T-mobile or AT&T
I know ATT have better coverage, but the prices at Tmobile are sweet,

Yes, many have not been touched in the northeast since Omnipoint. Go out of a city and poof!!! everything EDGE. People love the affordability of T-Mobile but sacrifice more with such a spotty network.

Most people don't leave the area immediately around work and home on a regular basis. If it works well for you in those areas, there's no reason to throw hundreds of dollars per year away. If you are leaving the area, have an unlocked phone and drop in a prepaid sim for the short time you're away.

Not worth it. To save a couple bucks. I have sprint and they have finally launched lte in my area, I have the best of both worlds now. But if i had to get a prepaid phone to travel I would rather pay a higher premium and have one phone that work. Bur hey to each their own. It's all about what works best for your situation.

I can't think of anywhere you can't get at least 2g data and voice while traveling on T-Mobile. I'm only referring to the people who THINK they need more. Most would find they don't. With wi-fi everywhere the high speed data argument starts to lose some of its luster as well.

Gotta agree with acdc1a, people are paying $70+ more per month for just 1-2gb of data with ATT or Verizon which at highspeeds can be burned through in about 30 minutes without too much effort. I don't get what is so great about having a smartphone, paying monthly through the tail for it, and being "encouraged" not to use it on the carrier's network but on wifi? To me if I'm going to be so restricted then I might as well go prepaid and use wifi...which is what I've done.

Using a smartphone but the 2gb of data per month isn't worth paying $80+/month that most of these contract carriers are offering, it's much better to pay by the minute and wait till I get to a wifi hotspot to use it. If it was 2gb of data per day, that's a different sto...

Hey, I made the leap to T-mobile and haven't looked back. I love the service and more importantly so does my bank account.

I joined Tmo at the end of April this year. . .no regrets.
Where I live, in downtown, right between where the mall is, and the beginning of downtown, I have 4 bars LTE, earlier tonight I did a speedtest and got 26mbps!!! And that was inside my room by the way, not out in the open.

TMO has some great deals, and their new international roaming with data is pretty good, good enough at least to check email, go on the irc, and a few quick google searches, which for me is fine, when I travel, its for vacation, not a mobile commincations experience, so it would work for me.

As far as the two as a choice, AT&T with my corporate discount puts me in more or less the same price range as TMO for a single phone account, AT&T is less when its a family plan.. Check to see if your employer has any discout deals. I don't fall in love with corporations, they are out to make a buck so do whats right for you. While I don't think TMO has the same coverage as the big two, I don't think its as gloomy as many people say.

FWIW I have...

the international data its a sweet deal, but a fell you, me to

I'm in the fence trying to decide between tmobile or att, I have a family play on sprint, but I'm tire of cdma, so verizon its not a option.

like you said, cdma sucks, but sprint with the new tri-band can step-up if they are smart,

With virtually every phone released in the last 2 years on Spirnt and Verizon having GSM roaming capabilities, why bother switching? you could just purchase a local prepaid sim card wherever you travel to and use your phone for much cheaper than any plan can offer.

People like to keep their US number when out and about, so they don't have to tell everyone about a new number. I agree, it's cheaper to do that, but you pay for convenience.

Easy fix for that, just make sure the new phone has a sim that is the same size as the old one, back up the contacts and restore them to the new phone, then send out a mass text message "This is my new number"
there you go, all your contacts instantly know your new number.

I don't get it. With data restrictions what's the big deal with 4G...oh great, I download 1 HD movie at the airport and I screwed my plan!

Everyone needs to realize that routerless technologies are making telecoms irrelevant for moving P2P data. Check out wifi direct apps in the Play Store. like bluetooth on steroids...100% independent from the internet.
