T-Mobile's LTE Network Now Covers 180M People
Mostly marketing fluff
I first started seeing this with my Galaxy S II T989, a device with no 4G hardware of which to speak, yet the TouchWiz UI shows a 4G icon whenever there is a data connection active. Apparently the carriers were legally allowed to do this, but that doesn't change the fact that it was a blatant lie.
Now we see this press release, which is basically more of the same. I do get LTE, but like Jayshmay, my coverage is unreliable and often I lose LTE completely. Sometimes my signal will be very weak to the po...

I'm sure there was a time when HSPA+ wasn't as reliable as it is now.
HSPA+ is not LTE, which is exactly what they'd like you to believe.
And then what is the actual definition of 4G and who determines it?

Scroll down a bit to the table entitled "The Generations of 3GPP Systems." There you go. In the table, clearly shown, is HSPA+ under the list of 3G standards.
The actual entity that determines what 3g is and what 4g is, is the International Telecommunications Union-Radio communications sector. And they originally said that LTE Advanced and Wimax are "4G" but that regular LTE is not because it doesn't meet the speed requirements of 100mbps while moving. But they later relaxed what they call "4G" and allow regular LTE and HSPA+.
So, basically what we've done after all this is prove the point I made in my first post.
my job is to correct people who are wrong. Don't try and lie about HSPA+.
Especially when in good areas t-mobile's HSPA+ can reach up to 22mbps. If that isn't 4G then I don't know what is.
Can we move on now? You OK with that?

Well I guess we need to start at the basics. What is 4G to you?
And then what is the actual definition of 4G and who determines it?
You're posting on these forums and you don't know what 4G is? Geezus.
4G as in 'Fourth Generation'.
HSPA+ is a Third Generation tech--hence the '3G' moniker.

Uh no. HSPA is 3G. HSPA+ is 4G. Look up the ITU. They are who determines what is 4G and what is not.
"HSPA+ is an evolution of HSPA that upgrades the existing 3G network and provides a method for telecom operators to migrate towards 4G speeds without deploying a new radio interface."
It's nothing more than '3.5G' at best.

HSPA+ IS 4G.
Hopefully this shuts people up who say it isn't.

According to the ITU LTE and Wimax and HSPA+ are 4G

So they CHANGED the definition--I don't give a crap what they call it. HSPA+ was just a stop-gap to true 4G.

Don't you understand. LTE isn't true 4G either. LTE is just a stop-gap to true 4G as well.
Geezus. I give up. Enjoy your 3.5G.
