Realize this program is for people who are into YEARLY upgrades. This is not meant to be a cheaper route for people who keep their phones for numerous years, it's simply a way to get a new phone every 12 months, without having to drop $600+ to do it.

Low upfront costs - but consistent payments. Yes, we can all do math - do the math on the $199 contract price PLUS another $649 when you're impatient and can't wait to upgrade.

$199 + $649 + $36 activation fee for initial upgrade/new line = $884

OR

ZERO down, $27 * 12 = $324 + NO activation fee.

Yes, my above math is dependent on you getting a new phone every 12 months - if this doesn't apply to you, then disregard, as you're not the person they're trying to target with this ...

You end up paying more for the phone in the long run.... all they do when they give you a phone for 199 is put the cost of the phone in the rate plan...t-mobile 50$ plan to get the same on att its more like 80$ X24month the 30$ diff ends up being 720$ plus the 199$ you payed up front...you just got a 600$ phone for 919$

"do the math on the $199 contract price PLUS another $649 when you're impatient and can't wait to upgrade"

it' either you pay 199$ with contract or 649$ if you not eligible to upgrade yet!

"ZERO down, $27 * 12 = $324 + NO activation fee."

you do realize you dont get to keep the phone right? you have to give it back to ATT in exchange for another phone like iphone6 next year.

that means you RENTING the phone for 324$ for 1 year!

And people STILL miss the point.

You are to only do Next if yearly upgrading is your goal - otherwise you pay more. I said that in my original post, yet people overlook that and try to keep talking about it.

You pay a premium for a new phone all the time - or you can tough it out for 2 years - your choice.

Most people fall into an issue where they sign a 2 year contract, and shortly after, regret the phone they got, or just want a new one - for that, Next is great; otherwise with a 2 year, if you want a new phone before your upgrade, it'll be full retail price.

That's not a shocker though. T-mobile has always and will probably always be less than AT&T. They charge less per month not because they're some unsung hero for the consumer...but because they can't.

If AT&T and T-mobile cost the same per month, then nobody would be with T-mobile because their coverage isn't as good.

(I'm not saying it's garbage coverage btw, they are doing a good job of increasing their nationwide footprint...but they're still not as big as Verizon or AT&T)

On a personal note I prefer to pay a little extra and have AT&Ts service because it affords me the option of not having a land line phone (Which I would need if I had Tmo), so it's an even break for me considering that.

and you STILL DONT GET IT!
with ATT Next, you STILL paying FULL RETAIL PRICE for the phone, it just spread you payment into 24 months!

OR you can just buy the phone at no contract pirce!

Actually, no. 20 months, and there is a slight discount vs full retail price.

iPhone 5 = $27/mo * 20 = $540. Last time I checked, an iPhone 5 was not available for less than $649.

Should I even bother debating this with you? It seems to be unfair to you to continue...

And seriously, you don't ever make it to 20 months - because if you did, you should have just gone with A 2 YEAR CONTRACT. Did you get that? I'm TELLING people to go 2 year contracts if they don't take advantage of the 12 month upgrades with Next. No one is disputing that genius. It's annoying how it's the same argument over and over though.

It's a dollar sign and then the number. It's a dollar sign and then the number. It's been that way since before your great granddaddy was born. Why has damaging written communication become so trendy that people won't even write a price properly anymore? This practice is just as obnoxious as the proudly misspelled UR. The lengths people go to screw up what they write is getting so unbearably annoying.

Where do you draw the line? Do you mispronounce words as well? Could you imagine how stupid you'd look not knowing how to speak English?

Now understand how you look now - there's really no difference between the two concepts. You're trying to excuse your willful ignorance and lack of education - as if it's cool?

You are correct, that you may indeed write anyway you want, but when people put you on blast and try to shame you for acting like such a tard, you need to own it and stop getting defensive. You also need to acknowledge that getting a decent job will most definitely be a challenge.
