The answer is NO. The only carrier that is able to do that is ATT because the voice GSM and Data WCDMA dont use the same connection.

Where Sprint and Verizon are both 3G CDMA for voice, data, and LTE.

T-Mobile can also do it.

Sprint/Verizon 4G LTE phones can also do talk/surf under 3G/4G coverage, it's just something specific to the iPhone 5 that didn't allow it to talk/surf at the same time. I forget what it was. They're asking if this was fixed.

“iPhone 5 supports simultaneous voice and data on GSM-based 3G and LTE networks. It is not yet possible to do simultaneous voice and data on networks that use CDMA for voice and LTE for data in a single radio design.”

Essentially, Apple would have to put a third antenna in the CDMA iPhone just for this feature, and that’s just not feasible for mass production. LTE will also eventually support simultaneous talk and surf in a single radio.

Don't know if this applies to the 5S though.

I was not aware the S3 can do that.

To my knowledge the answer is no for Sprint or Verizon unless on WiFi because of how their CDMA technology works.

ok LTE is not CDMA. They are two separate radios. So any LTE phone one Verizon or Sprint except for the iPhone can do voice and data at the same time.

Tmobile is weird because it does it sometimes and sometimes the connection gets interrupted. It happens to me all the time and I dont know why.

Did you really just say that Verizon and Sprint are 3G CDMA for voice, data, and LTE? I am pretty sure that LTE is not the same CDMA for voice and data and that LTE is not 3G. Whole different network.

The issue is that Apple put the CDMA and LTE on the same chip. Not different chip like the other manufacturers.

So then you are a Verizon customer who can confirm that you are using voice and data on your phone at this moment in time? If not then please find a document where we can see that you can do that on a Verizon phone.

For the record I said CDMA technology not 3G. I am very aware that 3G and LTE operate and different network frequencies.

I have Verizon and have sold verizon for the past 12 years and was very excited when Verizon release LTE and were able to use data and voice at the same time. A matter of fact some phones on 3G can do that as well. The HTC Thunderbolt when its on 3G can do voice and Data at the same time. Some of the Droid line phones can as well.

Phenomenal I was not aware of that every time I would ask a Verizon rep the answer was always NO in store, over the phone, and even searching on the internet. Perhaps it would be nice if there was an actual document that spoke to that.

I have a Tmobile phone and there are instances where I can also use Voice and data at the same time however it is not a stable connection because there are instances where the data connection drops while on call I have no idea why.

Wow those Verizon reps are dumb. Or they don't have Verizon. I hate when they don't have the carrier they sell.
You can do a search for simultaneous voice and data for verizon and there is lots of information about it.

I was doing it about 30 minutes ago on my phone which is a S 3 with Verizon. I didn't know any of their devices could until I got the S 3 last year and was very diappointed the iPhone 5 could not.

The iPhone does not support SVLTE (simultaneous voice & LTE) so no, the Verizon and Sprint iPhones cannot talk and surf at the same time even when there is 4G coverage.

"...The iPhone switches to 3G data when simultaneous voice and data is needed because there are not separate antennas for the 4G LTE radio and the voice radio.

Apple did not want to add the expense of a second antenna which would allow the LTE radio to have it's own antenna rather than sharing the antenna between the GSM/CDMA radios and the LTE radio."

thats incorrect only the all AT&T iphone can do simultaneous voice and data even the iphone 5, AT&T struck a deal with apple to only allow there Iphone to do it so they could stand out(example: sprint unlimited data iphone, Verizon iphone with the most LTE coverage) I dont know if the T-mobile one can but that launched over 6months after th...
