I like this analogy. Let's replace girlfriend with...prostitute though. Better. Wireless carriers (and frankly we can expand this to any successful business and even unsuccessful ones who just can't seem to figure it out) want to provide you the least expensive product at the greatest cost possible. They don't want to set their prices so high that you would consider leaving for another pimp, however. Ever call to cancel your service?

"I'm sorry that you're canceling your service Mr. Roberson. May I ask why?"

"Yes, you may. Your upgrade fee is $35. I've been a customer for twenty years (despite the carrier only having existed for twelve) and I am outraged!"

"I understand. You do realize that all wireless carriers charge an activation fee?"

And it goes on and on and on. Call Comcast because you can't get the same offers as new customers.

The bottom line is: Businesses do nothing out of the goodness of their hearts. Businesses HAVE no hearts.
