Sprint to Shut Down Some U.S. Cellular Service in October
They don't get free phone?
I was merely asking a question, not making an accusation, the article was ambiguous, it wasn't clear that customers switching over could get a replacement phone free, it sounded like they were being asked to pay for one.
Verizon did it by effectively making the phones useless for anything other than basic SMS and Voice Calls (even if you were paying for data and MMS), and AT&T disconnected every alltel phone after a certain date if they did not take the "free" phone.
Sprint is offering them "free" phones to swap, but they also have the choice to buy a better model if they'd prefer. Honestly it's just the few people who wait until the last minute to do things that this is going to bother, just like my friend who stayed on Nextel like an idiot to the day it ended and almost lost his number - all because he did not want to go and swap his phone book over!
No one is commenting for the most part because neither Sprint nor U.S. Cellular are relevant. AT&T and Verizon ARE evil...and so is Sprint. Remember when Sprint "fired" those 500 customers for calling customer service complaining too much? If Sprint had the power that AT&T and Verizon have they would operate pretty much the same as those two behemoths. But they don't. Fewer customers...fewer resources and fewer people who care.
So yeah. I root for Sprint AND T-Mobile to compete---NOT because I think they have better ethics than Verizon and AT&T but because the prospect of there being ONLY Verizon and AT&T is frankly scary. The two smaller fries don't really matter, but let's p...

Every wireless carrier has the same policy, basically what it comes down to is that a customer is like a girlfriend, you don't want one that is 'high maintenance', because eventually the cost of 'maintaining' these customers is greater than the potential revenue you get from them, so the only thing to do is cut them off.
"I'm sorry that you're canceling your service Mr. Roberson. May I ask why?"
"Yes, you may. Your upgrade fee is $35. I've been a customer for twenty years (despite the carrier only having existed for twelve) and I am outraged!"
"I understand. You do realize that all wireless carriers charge an ...

I agree, none of these companies are better or worse then each other. Think TMO is such a nice company, look at what they do in europe, they are disliked like AT&T and VZW, they just have to try and offer more, and thats good. Sprint, well I hope things change for them, honestly, in the past I have no idea where they are coming from, they took several bad options, then blame others for their mess.
