What are you talking about? both AT&T and VZW did "force migrations" for Alltel customers.

Verizon did it by effectively making the phones useless for anything other than basic SMS and Voice Calls (even if you were paying for data and MMS), and AT&T disconnected every alltel phone after a certain date if they did not take the "free" phone.

Sprint is offering them "free" phones to swap, but they also have the choice to buy a better model if they'd prefer. Honestly it's just the few people who wait until the last minute to do things that this is going to bother, just like my friend who stayed on Nextel like an idiot to the day it ended and almost lost his number - all because he did not want to go and swap his phone book over!
