The subway was the one damn place you could go to get away from all those d-bags that never shut up on their cell phones. Looks like that is a thing of the past.... 😡

In NYC, they're only doing the stations. So at least your ride should be quiet (save for the guy shouting that Marvin the giant blue ant will kill us all.)

In other cities, like Philly, they've managed to do the tunnels, too.

I wouldn't mind if they restricted service to data and messaging, like they do on the few planes with onboard cellular service.

But that would be an inconvenience for older users, who - on average - call more than text, compared to younger users.

I really miss the day (2002ish...) when texting was to save minutes. Back then, really all I had was 300 daytime minutes.

I don't consider texting a form of "communication".

Very impersonal! I'm not a fan of written communication.

I'm a very personable sort of person.
I'll text someone, but there are certain things I will save for a REAL voice phone call.

In a lot of ways, texting and Facebook have made this a much less personal world.

Quite a bit of people on Facebook I don't even consider "real" friends.

Interesting. I can see why you don't consider the crap that happens on Facebook real communication, but letters have historically been considered a pretty personal form of communication. In fact, when done properly the written word can many times be more powerful than the spoken word, as evidenced by the fact the movies are rarely ever as good as the books they were taken from. But I can also see why you prefer spoken conversation. I rarely text or leave a voicemail myself. I typically prefer to actually speak to the other person.

Thats becuase it is.

You get people repeating themselves 60x times, you get the people who have the volume on their cell turned way up and everybody around them can hear the conversation, you get angry people that are arguing in a public place on their cell phone, you get those people that say "can you hear me now?" fifty times, plus, without that phone or somebody you know near you, I would say 70-80% of the time, you are nice and quite on public transport, which is AMAZING, considering that usually, it is taking you to work, or home from work, and believe me, going to work or coming home, I do NOT want to talk to anybody.

So yeah, cell phone chatter is definately more annoying than any other kind.
