As much as I hate to admit it, Blackberry lost its foot hold on the market by staying stagnant, when iPhone and Android landed they stayed complacent by staying with their Java based OS on very under powered hardware. And in the time it took for them to bring out modern looking smart phones, you have had the rise of Android as the dominant OS (not looking for a Android vs iPhone vs Windows Phone vs whatever else contest), iPhone was already on the rise, WebOS died out, Symbian was sent to pasture, Windows Phone 7-8 came out and sank faster then the HSM Titanic and Firefox OS has started showing up.

That is a LOT of time to wait for a new OS and human nature has proven one thing, we humans are a impatient bunch when it comes to waiting ar...

They should have adopted android 2 years ago and transitioned bbm and other blackberry services over as an overlay.

I think it is all to late now....

I like the simplicity of the Blackberry OS on BB10 the touch screen gestures are great. If they want to be able to take back some of the market share they lost they really need to get their app game together... They dont have anything and converting Android apps to be able to use on BB is too much of a pain to actually want to go through all that even then its not guaranteed that the App will function properly.

Same thing with WP8 its a phenomenal easy to use OS the problem is the lack of Apps.

I have been looking for an excuse to use a different other than Android (since 2007). Kinda bored to be honest.

WP8 right now is the most promising more apps needed though.

What's twisted is that the word "abortion" even exists!
Truly honest people call it murder.

Innovate or die from your complacency. Or you can take the 3rd alternative and litigate, I suppose. That's currently a popular option.

No, you are correct about Blackberry pulling out of this hole they put themselves in. However for them to survive they will need to shine better then Samsung, HTC, Motorola, LG, Sony and even ZTE and Huawei. Can they do it, I believe they can. But they will need to devote every ounce of energy and creativeness to do such that.

Samsung, HTC, Motorola, LG, Sony, ZTE and Huawei are all hardware manufacturers using someone elses OS. If you compare Blackberries hardware to this list it would outshine more than a few of them. They are well put together with above average quality.

Blackberries survival depends more on being profitable than market share. Sure there are minimum sales figures they w...

Yes, the new Blackberries to have some sweet hardware, hand down. But just because you have the better hardware doesn't mean you are going to use it well. Agreed.

Profitability with BB has been based on its uniqueness and its ability to do what other platforms can not. The ONLY thing that Blackberry can do natively that other can is use BES and BBM. Since then Android, iPhone, Windows Phone have gained dominance over businesses when it comes to corporate email and messaging and with Blackberry announced the release of BBM for iOS and Android, I don't see any edge BB will have over anyone else. The will need something quite unique and will be the must have. And right now BES isn't it especially being Microsoft is leading that pack.

Contrary to what people think, Android is not the save all OS. Blackberry running Android would not save it. It is the same reason Nokia decided to go WP7 & 8. They realized that they would be just another OEM in a sea of Android based phones.

However, unlike Windows Phone , Android is a proven platform that is insanely popular. While Android may not be the save all OS, it sure as hell seems to be at this juncture. And on top of it it is IMHO better then WP7 & 8.

In some aspects, you are probably right. However, this is one of those topics that can be debated forever. IMO, it boils down to what you like. There are features both OS's can improve on, and I'm sure they each will. I personally hate to see BlackBerry not doing well. I would have liked to see four viable options to consumers, when ot comes to smart phones, and it is the reason I want to see Windows Phone succeed as well. A world with only Android and Apple as an option would be dreadful. It was the reason it took me two years to upgrade from BlackBerry, after my contract expired. BlackBerry didn't have a viable option for me and I didn't want Apple or Android.

I agree as well. The more choices people have the better the field may be.

As of right this moment the only Mobile OS's that seem to have everyone's attention is Android and iOS, however you have Windows Phone, QNX bases Blackberry OS 10, Firefox OS, Tinzen (which is making serious waves in South Korea) and Ubuntu OS which is making slow progress.

There are choices you just need to dig. But I agree with having more choices then just two. When I had my Blackberry 8350i I loved it. It was a great phone, good service and I like how customizable the OS was.

However I love Android, I love the openness, robustness, customizability from the boot animation to how it runs under the hood. I tried iOS and I think it is too restricted, but I li...
