CDMA divestiture

Does anyone know what band Western Wireless operates its CDMA network in? 800 or 1900? Just wondering who may interested in acquiring it. Likely candidates are probably VZW, Sprint, & US Cellular, given that their networks are CDMA.

it says in the full story ...

"In addition to the Lincoln market, Alltel will retain ownership of the entire PCS spectrum now held by Western Wireless"

Is PCS the same as CDMA 1.9 GHz? If so then only the 800 MHz is getting divested ...

1. pcs= 1.9ghz.

(((((((according to phonescoop) https://www.phonescoop.com/glossary/term.php? gid=76

1. The FCC-licensed frequency band near 1900 MHz.

2. A marketing term used to describe a wide variety of two-way digital wireless service offerings operating at 1900 MHz.
))))))

im not sure if 1.9ghz is cdma though... (but sprint has 1.9ghz of pcs spectrum and they use cdma and tmobile has 1.9ghz of pcs spectrum and they use gsm) so i am not sure.. i think it can be used for any technology it wants too. so unfort im not sure.. ☚ī¸

2. i belive they will divest some 800mhz spectrum..

800mhz= not pcs spectrum..

----

i am pretty sure on my answers, but not 100 percent sure...

sorry ☚ī¸

hope that helps..

cdma and gsm both can operate on the 1900 mhz frequency. i believe that the 1900mhz western owned was gsm, and therefore not have to be divested. the 800 mhz they owned was cdma, and therefore will have to be spun off. my guess is uscc will pick it up. it would give them all of nebraska w/in their midwest footprint. the fact that it is 800mhz rules out sprint, on top of the fact that there is no major city between lincoln and western nebraska. i would say that would also rule out verizon. just my guess though

well 800mhz sprint can get, however, you are right i dont think they will get it becuase they already will get the nextel's 800mhz which is far greater obviously then this 800mhz that will be divested.

no one knows that this point. i tried to look at the 8k and i couldnt find any information either, so who knows. we will find out soon i guess.

Sprint doesn't have a license to operate in the 850 MHz frequency band. After the Nextel merger goes through, they'll acquire a license, but until then they can only use 1900 (for their native equipment; Sprint phones can roam on 850 towers, obviously).

PCS describes the 1900 Mhz band as per your post. The technology deployed on this band must be digital in nature, but (per the FCC auction rules) could be any digital technology of choice.

Sprint, PrimeCo (now part of Verizon), etc. chose CDMA. Voicestream (now T-Mobile), Pacific Bell (now part of Cingular), etc. chose GSM. ATTWS (to add to their existing technology) chose TDMA.

Western Wireless has both CDMA and GSM (and TDMA and Analog for that matter) deployed on much of their network since they rely heavily on roaming to add to the bottom line. From what the engineers have told me, it's messy but it does the job well enough.

I wouldn't be surprised if Alltel eventually drops the GSM once Cingular deploys more of their acquir...

I would not be surprised by VZW to buy the divestiture markets from Alltel to complete this merger. Alltel and VZW are good partners. These are markets where VZW does not have spectrum or lic to sell.

Actually if i am reading correctly..they are NOT selling spectrum or lisc....this would mean a carrier that already has cdma service or already has spectrum/lisc. in these areas(uscell might fit on both markets not for sure about the ark...but i do believe they have reason to look at the kansas market)
