Here we go again. I hope the FCC, DOJ, FTC and everyone else shoots it down. AT&T does not need more spectrum, like Verizon they have the mother lode. The Deathstar is out again.

Agreed. All these little companies getting swallowed up by the big guys will only lead to a great oligopoly.
...
It's funny that so many people here are worried about there not being enough competition in wireless carriers, while so many people here cheer for Blackberry and Windows Phone to disappear, leaving nothing but the Google/Apple duopoly.
...
I wouldn't say dissappear, it's Apple I'm sick of. It's as if there are no individuals anymore, everybody is the same.
At least with Android everyones manufacturer is different, different screen sizes.
Unless someone has the IPhone 5, everyones Iphones is the exact same size,
I view Apple products as a cult!!! A way for people to lose their individuality. No different than Hollister shirts, or A & F shifts, just a bunch of clones people are.
...
Yeah, of the 5 big platforms the one I would most like to see disappear is the iPhone, I agree with you on that...
...
Has T-Mobile's Q2 results been released yet? I tried Googling it, but only 2012 comes up.

Totally agree. I laugh whenever I see these Asians with iPhones and Hollister/A&F clothing. What do they think, it's being American or something? 🙄 Those clothes weren't designed for them. The blacks are worse I'm sorry. Not a racist thi...

Perhaps some do... But I don't. I was there when Verizon announced their merger with Alltel. Even then, while the rest of my co-workers at the call center cheered. I shook my head. I realized even then what "synergies" really means. Broken necks and slashed throats. I saw a whole lot of people who had transferred along with me to build that call center lose their jobs in favor of cheaper Alltel workers. No thanks. Keep Blackberry (of course, I want a Q10 really badly) and Windows Phone around.

Isn't that a good thing. That means more coverage area for the big companies. Which means the subscribers will be happier that they can use their phones. That is the problem with Sprint and T-Mobile is that even though they have great plans their coverage isn't as good and so people leave them.
...
Why doesn't AT&T need more spectrum. They do not yet a 100% coverage in the US.
...
As a matter of fact, in order to build LTE Networks they are tearing down their EDGE network...because they don't have enough to run an EDGE, a 3G a HSPA+ and an LTE network at the same time......and they just gave a truckload of spectrum to T-Mobile too after the acquisition failed to go through.......some 'hoarding''...... 🙄
...
Both ATT & T-Mobile should shut down EDGE and repurpose it for LTE. EDGE shouldn't even exist in 2013/2014!
...
But then T-mobile wouldn't have any coverage.
...
Refarming that would take a bit of time though, which would leave many rural customers without service for an extended period. I'm in Arkansas and many people live in lightly populated areas and are heavily wooded, so they rely on those EDGE towers and the lower frequencies that ATT and Verizon incorporate.
...
Then why don't they shut down the EDGE, 3G or the UTMS? Once 4G has a good hold, 2G and 3G become pointless
...
umm. How else are you going to make phone calls.
...
Voice over LTE. and or VoIP. All the cellular companies are either gearing up for it or already have it.
...
None of the companies have or are even that close to VoLTE. How when that does happen they do need to get rid of the 2G and 3G networks quickly.
...
No company has 100% coverage in the US.
...
Coverage is completely unrelated. AT&T already owns spectrum covering 100% of the population.
...
Oh I see what you mean Rich. Its not coverage that is the issue. Its capacity.
...
Capacity shall be a non-issue as well. In rural areas, population is low and has coverage also by Verizon subs and some rural carriers.
Metropolitan areas conversely covered by up to 8 carriers in many cities, also splits up pops. This ultimately lightens the load on the spectrum of AT&T and Verizon. Not to mention has 3G is phased out over the next 4 years, this will free up even more spectrum for the respective carriers.
These larger carries conjure up needy excuses for spectrum as though they feel they are the only one providing service for the entire population.
As Rich had explained in a nice manner, AT&T needs to worry more about using the nationwide spectrum holdings they already have rather than trying to hold spectrum as r...

Technically, every carrier needs more spectrum. A lot more.
So more precisely, the question is how much should AT&T have relative to the other carriers?
...
Truth to be told, only carrier really strapped for spectrum is TMO, Sprint has a larger horde then AT&T, but they get a pass because of they're inept. (which is going to change real fast)

There should be a 40% spectrum cap, per carrier, per frequency band, for all spectrum less than 2200 MHz (AWS band and below).
...
No. The question is how should at&t be allowed to obtain more soectrum? The answer should NOT be by gobbling up its competitors. The government is auctioning off new soectrum. Let them obtain the spectrum it needs in that manner.
...
I'd bet if Verizon (who has less of a need of spectrum than AT&T) were buying Cricket instead, everyone here would be praising it, but since AT&T is buying Cricket, they have to be criticized for it. Totally unfair for AT&T.
...
No people would be criticizing that one too. There are lovers and haters of all the companies. One site you read the praise on another you read the hate. I replyed to a story on Phonescoop and I was being bashed for hating Sprint. I commented on Androidcentral about hating Sprint and people joined in.
