Google and the manufacturers have been sitting on this since February and we're just now finding out about it? ๐Ÿคจ ๐Ÿ˜ก

Full protection can only be provided by a patch to Android itself, which is up to phone manufacturers (and carriers) to provide.

How unfortunate for Verizon handset owners.

LOL well I mean more like phone scoop is just finding out and this is pretty much very old news if you are downloading third party apps not via the playstore you are asking for it.

The Article does say that this does not apply for apps updated and downloaded directly from the Playstore...

The same would apply if you were downloading apps for your iPhone using Cydia...

I use an antivirus app on my phone works well. Its funny because its only detected something malicious once on a website and reason was "Marijuana" the website talks about hemp legalization and its benefits. LOL

Google made the ability of Android to install third party apps so that you aren't tied to one specific app store (a la the iPhone) a centerpiece of their advertising campaign when Android was first rolled out.....remember 'Whatever i doesn't Droid does?"

What good is this much vaunted feature if you can't use it?

Google has never advertised installing apps outside the playstore. Infact they have always advised against it. Secondly, those Droid does commercials where from Verizon and not Google. Even then I dont remember them taunting that particular feature of Android.

95% or more of Android owners wont be affected because most dont know how or even know if they can install 3rd party aps. Google even block people from doing it unless someone purposely goes through the settings menu to unlock the ability.

Yes, they did indeed taunt the iPhone for not being able to run 3rd party apps....

You see that? "I don't allow open development".....you know what that means? That's a gibe about Apple not allowing 3rd party apps

Or a jab at Apple's nearly draconian restrictions on developers.

Why would phone buyers care about that?

I care more about that than the ability to download from unauthorized third parties.

The ability to run whatever app you want, without getting a 'mother may I' permission slip from the manufacturer, is not a small matter....it's the reason why people jailbreak their iPhones....it's the reason people buy Android phones....and heck not just Android......the fact that you can get apps from ANYWHERE is one of the big selling points of the Blackberry as well....because for years most of the big time apps for Blackberry that people wanted, things like the Kindle and nook apps, things like Google Maps and Google Search, things like (for a very long time) Pandora, were not available in Blackberry App World, you have to get them from elsewhere....sure, you can go to Blackberry World, but if what you're looking for isn't there, no big...

I normally ignore you because you are consistently one of the rudest people here, your posts are like something out of X Box Live or God forbid You Tube...even your user name using the word 'tard' as an insult, indicates an immature attitude...

But I'm going to respond to you just this one time...and I am going to do it without lowering myself to your level....

Google not only allows, but encourages and promotes, for knowledgeable people who know what they are doing, to run third party apps, there is even a place in the settings of Android where you can set your phone to be able to run apps from anywhere

You ready for this? Here is what you do.....

Step 1 โ€“ Go to Settings.
Step 2 โ€“ Go to Security.
Step 3 โ€“ Scroll down and ch...

And while I do still argue that it affects few people, It IS a selling point for Android. I think the primary point on your side is
for knowledgeable people who know what they are doing

If you don't know what you're doing, you shouldn't have done it initially.

Everytime I see this guy on here, his statements are antagonistic. I see his name, then in my mind I see a little kid bullying other kids, trying to take their candy. Because he is lacking in intelligence he fails; therefore, he resorts to, "I'm gonna push you down and call you names!"

I personally am annoyed by this type of immaturity. These forums are here to help us gather information and share knowledge with each other for each other's benefit. Rather than antogonizing people for discrepencies or calling people out on mistakes (in the case of Libtard, they are usually not mistakes, just ill-worded or ill-interpreted phrases). We should simply ask them kindly why they came to that conclusion and ask if our rebuttal to their claims i...
