I'd be most interested in knowing what's in group 4- stuff sent to the NSA.

Probably all the same things that Verizon is doing. Just hasn't been discovered likek Verizon's has. It is not right. We don't sign a contract that says all of our information may be given to big brother.

I don't think it would matter even if you did sign a contract that said they couldn't give our info to the gov.

While you are correct in saying that it's not right, I believe your anger is pointed at the wrong people in this reguard.

Blame the gov, not the providers.

If you're not a terrorist I don't see why your crying... I would rather the government have the right to check your information and be able to stop another boston bomber type event than not...If you're girlfriend isn't fat and ugly what does it matter if they see the naked pictures she sent you, or how many times you visited pr0nhub.com

I'm not a terrorist, but I prefer to live my life the way it was intended too. Where is the Fourth Amendment in this?

People who chant the mantra of, "if you don't have anything to hide, what are you worried about," have always been haters of freedom and friends of tyranny. But I'll give you a chance to prove how candid you are. Go ahead and upload a copy of your birth certificate and social security card to a public server. Post the URL to access them here for everyone to see.

I enjoy freedom as much as the next guy, but do you think the governement keeps us free by running around like clueless ninnies? How do you think they stop terror attacks before they start? Hmm... Probably phone/email taps, monitoring electronic information sent back and fourth, etc.. I'm not agreeing with everything the gov't does but if they monitor my txt/emails, to be frank, I don't care because I'm not making plans to make a bomb and blow up buildings. Everyone knows Bush dropped the Twin Towers anyways, not Bin Laden..

Terrorism is the trigger word for the government to go well beyond rational needs. Being afraid has nothing to do with this.

I'm not too angry about it, it doesn't matter that much to me. I am not a terrorist. I do blame the government. I am not a terrorist nor do I have anything to hide. I have no idea why people voted for Obama in either elections, especially the last one and I can not comprehend why he still has a reasonable appreciation from recent polls. He is a very extreme case of a big government vs the little people. I'm sorry I thought this was AMERICA (it's really fun to say that). Thank you for the support, and helping me explain that it is the governments fault and not the carriers. 🙂

Are you aware that the Washington Post has retracted most of the original story claiming that companies were voluntarily handing over customer information without a warrant?

The Washington Post has since admitted that their original story was incorrect, in fact the companies did not know that their data was being harvested, and the NSA never had direct access to anyone's servers, in fact, the NSA is collecting the information from what are known as 'drop boxes', which is far less intrusive than described in the original article.

In the words of the Washington Post's official retraction of the original story:

"
One top-secret document obtained by The Post described it as “Collection directly from the servers of these U.S. Service Pr...

Read the recent article about all the phone numbers Facebook was collecting? Me wonders what that was all about.

Additionally, all these companies have been avidly denying any involvement in any such government program for years, until the existence of the program actually came to light. If they were willing to lie about their involvement at the government's behest before this came to light, what reason do I have to believe they are not lying now? Many, many, many people in the history of man have adamantly lied over much less than what is at stake here. Furthermore, Facebook, Microsoft, Apple, and Google have all been caught in some very unscrupulous privacy violations over the years. So, where's the incentive to believe they really have...

Furthermore, if you are of the mindset that these companies bend their knee to the government in this way, what is to say that the Washington Post would not retract portions of the story at the government's request as well? Perhaps the government wanted it to sound not-so-bad as it really was and decided to pressure higher-ups in the Post to retract parts of the statement. Just a thought.

I'm personally not of the opinion that the Washington post is one of those tough papers that stands up to big government. I think they would be more that happy to get the publicity of breaking a story like that and then retract it.
