This is great, but I don't see how and when they are going to be able to adopt any of these technologies if Sprint has already made the decision on EV-DO, and I'm sure future CDMA tech.

im not sure if you remember but sprint will be testing wimax over their DO system.

after DO REV O and REV A there is basically nothing else with cdma. they have to move to ipwireless or wimax, and thats what they are going to do.

how? easily.. they have plenty of 2.5ghz spectrum.

you cant just stop with DO, you have to keep on going to newer and faster and better technologies so you will be able to destroy the competition.

why do you think nextel signed a pact with qchat? why do you think nextel continues to build out widen, more towers, and the 6:1 voice coder, and newer products/solutions? to grow!! obviously!

I agree. Also keep in mind that both Sprint and Nextel are still operating as independent companies. If Nextel were to stop trying to develop and implement new products and serves during this pre-merger time and the merger not approved either by the share-holders or the government, then Nextel would be caught with their pants down, running behind all the other carriers. 😲

Both Sprint and Nextel are operating at this point as competitors. They will continue to do so until the merger is complete.

yes, by law they have to. but the shareholders will be voting on july 13th. thats why nextel doesnt stop!

nextel is behind all of the carriers anyway, cept in arpu, churn, and lifetime revenue per user.

by the way nextel can do flarion, rev a, and/or ipwireless if they want to.

1. flarion they already tested and it was successful...
2. rev a they can also run and use qchat.
3. ipwireless is better then flarion, so we will see if its successful. (the trial of course)

nextel has widen soon so that gives their speeds (data) up to 1xrtt speeds, which is pretty good.

===

i belive this merger will go through with flying colors, cept for some divestitures with some customers rural markets. there wont be any divestitures...

IPWireless is just the name of the company. They specialize in GSM and now UMTS networks. Their UMTS is the TDD variety, but compatible with the other UMTS' if they are in the same band. Very cool of Nextel to explore the '3GSM' route. They can even use qchat with td-cdma.
