I've been getting emergency alerts on my GSII as long as I've had it (2 years). I just assumed that everyone got them. This is just another place where ATT and Apple are behind the curve.

That's assuming that 'emergency alert messages' are actually worth getting....in my experience, they're really not.

I'm with T-bone on this one. Because of the technology they use to push the alerts, the alerts will not arrive if the device is in use or has a running data session (including background data being used by running apps, which many users may have going for extended periods, hours or even a day). Because of this, not only are the notifications a "duh" in the first place, but they often arrive heavily delayed.
If anything, it seems a poor choice for ATT to implement this right now, seeing as the media is hammering the government's involvement with Verizon. It's ridiculous to assert that people who aren't glued to a television are somehow "under-aware consumers". And anyone wearing a big enough tinfoil hat to think that emergency alerts are some kind of government interference isn't going to have a cell phone anyway (and they certainly are not the majority of ATT's consumer base as you laughably assert). I really doubt that ATT has been disenfranchising its customers because its worried about those people. This is si...

To my understanding, this is on AT&T, I don't believe this was an update pushed to all iPhones, just AT&T. It was a simple carrier update to the phone when going into the settings. Wish I could disable the Presidential updates. I turned off the Amber Rose and severe weather updates. I live in California, I'd be getting endless updates.
